Hairstyles of a spiky and unorthodox nature have reportedly been banned in Iran because they imply devil-worship, while tattoos and other male bodily adornments also being outlawed
Do you think that a government should be able to ban something like hairstyles and tattoos?
I do not think that the government should be able to ban personal modifications because it is their person's choice if they want it or not, but some countries are very strict about what citizens can do.
no countries should ever outlaw tattoos. it is an expression of ones self and of art. personally i am a huuuuuge fan of tattoos and was to be covered. just the idea of them being banned somewhere really irritates me. the government should have no say id personal body modifications anyway!
I disagree with this ban strongly and feel like it deprives the people of their methods of self-expression. This shouldn't be tolerated unless it poses a clear and evident immediate danger to others, which is not the case.
Hair styles and tattoos are forms of self-expression! To ban it would be crazy. Its their hair. Their skin. Their body. As long as it's doing no harm I feel like what they're doing is their business.
I think that it shouldn't be banned because its not bringing any harm to anyone else. They should have freedom to express what they feel is right. I think the only reason they should ban it is if it put others to harm, but it doesn't.
As Americans, we are obviously opposed to this because of the coddling the First Amendment has provided in the realm of self-expression. However, we must remind ourselves of the current political situation occurring in Iran. Under the rule of a Prince, influenced by Shariah-law, Iran is far from representing a "democracy". Meaning that at no point in time the government has to grant leniency on "freedom of expression". This reality of oppression in the country is tragic, however it is a reality that the Iranian people have to live every day.
Hair and tattoos are symbols of free speech and in any government protecting civil liberties the government has no right to ban such speech. However, Iran is not a government for the people and has little protection of civil rights so there really isn't much that can be done about it.
