Summary of Story: A brand new business school building for the University of Technology Sydney was recently opened in Sydney, Australia. The building itself is shaped like a squashed up brown paper bag. It was designed by the internationally renowned architect, Frank Gehry. The project took over two years and $180 million to complete. Its billowy walls are made up of 320,000 bricks that were laid by hand. At the opening ceremony, Sir Peter Cosgrove, Australia's Governor-General, fondly exclaimed "It's bold, it's inspiring and the traditional notions of hallowed sandstone quadrangles, spires and large lecture halls are symbols of tertiary education have been reinvented, reinterpreted and reinvigorated by the building."

Discussion Q: What do you think the significance of the building design is?
Based on the photos i personally dont think the building looks bad. i like that its very different from the usual architecture. i think the significance of this style of architecture is because Gehry wanted to try something new and attempt to change peoples views on architecture.
To me that building looks really cool and artists and architects should be able to show their creative side and try something different new something that has never been done before this shows that people can do incredible things with art.
I like the building, I think it will distinguish the University of Technology Sydney from other schools competing for recognition. I do agree with Alex, the design would fit an art school better.
I enjoy the fact that the renown architect can express what he feels through architecture. Although the building may have been more appropriate for an art school, he wanted to redefine what the traditional classroom looks like and decided to go against the norm. I believe that this should also be somewhat of an inspiration to us.
I really like that they didn't just try to make a normal square building. I would be so excited to wake up every morning go to a place like that and I also would be excited to tell people. I don't think it really matters that the business school has a well designed exterior.
