China announced that blog and chat room users will be required to register with operators and promise, in writing, to avoid challenging the communist political system. In the past few weeks, efforts have been made to block private network's that are used to circumvent China's internet filters. Operators were instructed to deactivate any users who take part in "illegal and unhealthy" activity and to assign an employee to keep track of users and user activity. China blocks access to websites run by human rights and other activist groups, as well as Google and Facebook.
I'm doing this article as well! As an American, my initial reaction is to say "Hell no, freedom of speech!", but we have to sit back and look at who we're talking about here: China. Although they part-take in capitalism, China is communist. There are no ands, ifs, or buts about it. So in the eyes of the Chinese government-of course they should be able to put this many restrictions, they take care of the people, an the people need to respect their leaders. But in the eyes of an American, restricting people's speech is a basic violation of human and civil rights for speech is one of the only weapons a person has on them at all times. "Should China be able to put this many restrictions on internet access?"-they already have, and they're not going to stop anytime soon.
I think China shouldn't put restrictions on internet access but to put some so that people can't do harm. But also what maddie said they already have put restrictions on them so they won't stop soon.
China should not be able to put this many restrictions on internet use. People should be able to explore the possibilities of these activist groups. The people should be free to figure out how they can express their thoughts and views. This should especially be so because of the communist way of life and rule in China. If they are worried about harm and violence they should deal with it when it arises. Internet searches is not going to be the only cause of rebellion or violence.
I do not believe that China should be able to but this many restrictions on the internet because I believe the internet is a natural human right that we all have he right to use free of government intervention.
