Workers in Malawi are using helicopters and boats to help rescue people from the deadly floods. The south east African nation werent sure how many people died. They had numbers from dozens to 170. However the government claims it rescused 300 people by helicopter and almost 1,300 were saved by boats. More people have been saved as of Sunday, but lots of them still need shelter, food, medicine and other essentials. The flood originated from weeks of heavy rain. 11,000 homes were damaged, and crops were destroyed.
Judging from the video on CNN you can tell that this nation really does not seem like they have the resources to help the people that are still in danger. It is great that they attempted to, and they did save thousands of lives, but as an underdeveloped nation I think they did the best that they could have. And in the article it states that Malawi is one of the poorest nations in the world. With being said, again, I think they did the best that they could have done.
The fact that the government of this nation was able to fund helicopter evacuations and boat rescues is a monumental feat. i believe the real issue would be rebuilding after the flood waters have receded.
Their isn't much the government could do for them except for what they already did with the helicopters and the boats. One thing the government could try to do is give them food and shelter. But south east African doesn't have a lot of money or resources so it is hard for them to do things to help their people.
In perspective of the governments' shape, they are not equipped for serious problems like this. The could try efforts in other nations to help aid them though.
I believe that the government did what they were able to do to help . However, they could have tried a bit harder to provide food and shelter for these people. But we do have to keep in mind that South East africa does not have much to give so what they have done and tried to do to save these people should be appreciated.
I think that the government has done what they could with the resources they have, the fact that one of the poorest countries in the world could fund these evacuations and rescues is incredible. However, I think that another concern is where to house these people after the water recedes.
According to the article, Malawi is one of the most poor countries in the world. It would have been great to see them supply food and water but seeing that they could not afford to, they did a great thing saving all those lives. Maybe they could help spread the word even more through more news stations and can eventually start a relief fund.
I think that the government did all the could at that time to save the amount of people they did. It's going to be a time consuming process to save everyone but at least they are doing what they can at the moment.
