Ebola outbreak in West Africa appears to be slowing down, says UN
BY LOUIS CHARBONNEAU AND MICHELLE NICHOLS, JANUARY 16 2015
The Ebola outbreak that has taken more than 8,400 lives in West Africa appears to be slowing down, but the struggle to contain the disease is not over.
"The facilities to treat people are available everywhere,"Dr. Nabrro said. "Safe burial teams are providing safe and dignified burial services everywhere and were seeing the beginnings of the outbreak slowing down." He REFUSES TO MAKE A PREDICTION ON WHEN THE EBOLA OUT BREAK WILL BE COMPLETELY OVER.
The haemorrhagic fever is spread through contact with bodily fluids of infected people or the highly contagious body of someone who has died of the virus. Dr Nabarro said burial practices that involved people touching and cleaning the bodies of Ebola victims had helped fuel the outbreak.
The US, British and French military, built treatment centres, playING a MAJOR role. "This external help was absolutely vital in bolstering and supporting the capacity of the people in the country to make the changes," Dr Nabarro said, adding that "much of the external help came from within Africa".
wHEN DO YOU THINK THIS OUTBREAK WILL BE COMPLETELY OVER?
I'm not sure if it will ever be completely over unless they were to find a cure for the disease. However, I do think we are starting get the spread of the virus under control and stop it from killing so many people.
This disease, same as the outbreak, may not come to an end anytime soon, but we are moving forward with cures and treatments that are considerably helping.
Ebola may not see an end for a long time, but all efforts to keep it contained and out of cities and towns are warranted.
I think it is unlikely that Ebola will be gone forever. We can certainly hope so, but from past experience, thats not how it works. The outbreak may be ending for NOW, but that doesn't mean it won't come back in the future.
