The Boko Haram forcibly abducted 40 young males, ranging from ages 10-23, after coming to the village of Malari and preaching their extremist message on Dec. 31st. The news of this mass abduction emerged days later because of poor communications from the destruction of cell phone towers (Also done by the Boko Haram). The Boko Haram has conducted many mass kidnappings, most notably the kidnapping of over 200 girls in April. The girls' releases were never secured and it is assumed they were converted to Islam and sold off as wives.
How do you think an extremist group like this can be stopped? Or can they even be stopped? And how should the poor communications be fixed so news like this can be spread faster?

Its hard to say what will stop these extremists groups but we should try to find a way to stop them. Due to satellites, we usually get our information almost immediately but some countries don't have the technology or money to get satellite signals so information in those countries will continue to spread slowly.
I think it's really difficult to stop extremist groups, mainly because national governments have to work through the system and have to worry about international relations in order to combat against groups, whereas extremists can do illegal, but faster methods to further their cause. Poor communication is a definite problem that can only really be solved with improvements in technology, especially in the technological era we're in; however, this costs money that some countries can't (or won't) spare. If anything, the extremist groups have an even bigger advantage since they may use monies from illegal sources to fund their work.
I definitely think that they should be stopped although it will be difficult and takes a lot of thought. People willing to stop them must join and find a way because this group is acting and becoming worse and must be stopped soon before people will not be able to do anything anymore.
A solution to mending the broken lines of communication may be to have mobile communication lines. Vehicles that constantly relocate to hinder terrorist organizations from attack and destroying them. A network of trucks used to carry messages to and from locations of hostility via satellites and radios on each truck. Just a thought. As for Boko Haram, there isn't much we can do without setting foot on African soil. I believe we would need ground forces to dismantle Boko Haram and liberate those who have been captured and enslaved by them.
