[Team Tiv] US spy planes spy on american phones

Federal low enforcement planes are full of gear made specifically to spy on american phones and phone calls. This kind of spying is used to protect american citizens from terrorist attacks and other organized crime. This type of spying was increased after the 9/11 attacks occurred to ensure the safety of american citizens. Some may argue that this is a violation to the right to privacy.

What do you think about spy planes spying on american citizens? Do you think that this is a violation to your right to privacy?

It is important for the government to try to keep us citizens safe, but some people may feel violated of their right to privacy.

I'm a bit on the fence about this, mainly because we Americans expect the government to protect us from terrorist attacks but at the same time, stay out of our personal business. Some may say that the govt has no right to spy on our phone lines since it technically violates our right to privacy; however, if the govt is to protect us from terrorist threats, it should be able to eliminate any possible domestic threat to. In order to know who is up to dubious, anti-American actions, the govt has to monitor certain sources of communication that could be used to organize any terrorist action. Plus, I have nothing to hide so I don't really care at this point if the govt is monitoring my phone for what i say. (Although i can understand why some people are wary of the govt tracking our every move and possibly gain security information from our phones.)

Like I said, I'm on the fence about it.

I think the government needs to take measures like this to keep the American citizens safe. Spying on our phone calls is in a way violating our privacy but I don't see it as a huge deal, if you're not planning to attack the U.S. you should be fine.

I agree with Amy. We want and need protection, but are generally unwilling to give what it takes to receive it. I have nothing to hide and I have faith in the government to know when a "threat" is an actual threat. I'd just like to point out that according to the article, this type of activity from the government has increased since 9/11. Why is it a big deal now?

In order to reach the level of safety and security most Americans want, some personal rights might have to be compromised. As an American traveling and using your phone with no wrongful intentions you have nothing to worry about. This idea does clash with personal rights, but i do believe the government must take most precautions to maintain the safety of Americans. especially after what we have seen terrorism can do

Yes i strongly do, however im more opposed on not being terrorized by terrorist then opposed to the government checking up on my love textes with my GF. In over words im not okay with it, but i will be if it greatly benefits our security. however what i hate is that it always seems like there's more to the agenda then told by the government. More honesty about there actions would be appreciated.

I think it's the right thing to do when they want to protect the citizens in the nation. But I've heard that they use the information also for other things and to spy on other countries' governments and I think that then it is a violation into the privacy of the people.

On one hand, I absolutely feel like this is a violation of privacy. When I go on my phone, I don't want to think about some stranger that is listening in on some private conversation. However, another terrorist attack like 9/11 would be absolutely horrible, as well as the after effects. I think this issue is a toss up, because it comes down to people wanting their right to privacy more than the treat of another attack, or vice versa. But, if the government is going to use this technology, they need to make sure it does not go into the wrong hands, or else no one will be safe.
