A Polish veterinary student is under investigation for stitching the words I Love You onto the skin of a dog and posting the picture to his girlfriend on Facebook.
This is wrong. Although it did not harm the animal, it is just weird. How would you feel f someone stitched that into your pet and them posted it on social media as if it is a joke? I see that he may be trying to "show his skills", but there are many other ways to do that. I don't think he should get severe punishment, because he did not hurt the animal, i just think that this needs to be known that it is not okay.
One of the first point of the Vets Code of Ethics is that a vet practicing his profession of public trust needs professional conduct and good morals. This display of affection was in no way to be considered professional conduct. There are plenty of ways to let someone know that you love them. He could have stitched it into a pillow, but a living thing is rather cruel.
This is wrong on so many levels. Did the student think about how the owner is going to fell when they get their dog back and see the words on the stomach. I wouldn't want this student working on my puppy
That is unethical and weird. Those darn polish veterinary students, always stitching words into live animals. Where does someone even get the notion to do that?! Moving past that, its cruel to do something like what this student did. If the dog would have been deceased then on some level I guess that would be remotely alright, however, this was a live animal. There is no excuse, what he did was cruel and unnecessary. Legal action should be taken against him.
I have no idea what kind of person could think that's sweet in any way. To me it's flat out disturbing. I feel that the veterinary student needs to reevaluate his profession and his relationship if he's willing to stitch words into an animal. I find that this was very unnecessary and the consequence should be in the field of his profession. He's a student still trying to learn but he might have some psychological problems with him.
I do believe it was unethical and do not understand why a person would do that to an animal. Especially as a veterinary student it is his duty to care for animals and this is just cruel. If I were to hear that my vet had done this I would have switched to a different verteranian immediately because I would not trust my dog in the hands of this person.
If this violates his ethical code of conduct, then he should be further investigated. He should also be psychologically assessed and given help, because this doesn't seem like anything that a normal student would do.
Its unethical because you should only be practicing procedures necessary to helping the animal, anything else for any other reason will simply put the animal in pain for no reason. Flowers or chocolate would probably be a better choice than a live dog that just had a medical procedure.
I just wanted to ask why some of you think the student needs psychological help. It's clear that he was wrong to do that to a dog and that there was no point in doing it, but does that really mean he has something psychologically wrong with him? Some people think that kind of stuff is cool. However, I do think that the student should have bought an animal hide or something if he really wanted to do that.
the act was very unethical and i fail to see any reasoning as to why the student did this or found it to be ok. The student should be punished, because although he might not have caused any harm the act was just wrong and did not need to be done. there could have been unseen altercations. And to post it on the internet for a girl, is just wrong and immoral.
If the number of stitches that it took to write "I LOVE YOU " was the same amount that it would have taken initially, then i dont think its unethical. I dont think this matters unless it would have cost more for the owner of if would have affect the dog in some way that it wouldn't have if hadn't used this method of stitching
I feel it is both. I think it shows a great deal of skill on the students part with a needle. However, I do feel it was grotesque and that it showed a lack of care for the animal that would be expected of a veterinary student. However, unless he seriously hurt the animal, I feel the greatest punishment acceptable is that he be dropped from veterinary school. It is unfortunate, but people abuse dogs all the time and are not caught. Why should he be treated any differently?
I agree with everyone who sais that this is unethical. Although he knew what he was doing and he knew that it wouldn't hurt the animal it's not his right to stitch words into a dog's stomach. I think he wouldn't want a doctor stitching personal messages into his stomach during an operation just to impress a woman. Even if it doesn't hurt the dog I'd call that cruelty to animals. He should get a punishment for what he's done.
