Team Tiv:El Salvador's Total Abortion Ban Lethal.

The Supreme Court in El Salvador has banned total abortion. Even if the woman is very ill and can not carry the baby, she can not have an abortion. Also a child that has been raped can not have an abortion. This is the seventh Latin American country where total abortion is banned.

Do you think the supreme court has the right to say a woman can not have an abortion.

I believe that the government of El Salvador has no right to tell the women of their country that they do not have the right to an abortion. Any argument made against abortion on religious ground, which most arguments against stem from, have no place in a secular state. Just because some don't like it doesn't mean the practice should be banned for all. For those who see abortion as a medical practice should be able to have access to an abortion.

In the end, women should be able to choose for themselves. Not the state.

I think that since the unborn child has no say in the matter, the supreme court should be able to ban abortion.

Although i am against abortion, I think that women who are ill and children who have been raped should be able to have an abortion if they want. But it should not be allowed without a reasonable reason.

Abortion is an issue that I have strong opinions on. I am pro-choice and therefore think that it is wrong for a government to pass and enforce laws that force women to keep unwanted or dangerous pregnancies.

I am aware that El Salvador has different values than us here in the United States, but are the Supreme Court Justices of El Salvador having to carry babies around in their stomachs? No. They don't know how hard a pregnancy may be. There are women who have ended up pregnant due to rape, there are women who can't afford to have a baby due to financial problems, and there are women who can't have children because of health complications that can be caused by pregnancy.

Yes there is adoption, but aren't there enough children waiting for a home already?

No government should be telling a woman what she can and cannot do when it comes to keeping or aborting a baby. It should be the choice of the mother. It only affects the mother and possibly the father in the long run.

I agree completely with what Amber said. Every woman should have the right to choose what she does with HER body. People often bring up that there is the option of adoption, but what about doctors bill? Pregnancy is not just bills after the baby is born. They are throughout all nine month of the pregnancy, and some people cannot afford that.

I do not think the Supreme court should have to right to not allowed woman to get an abortion. I do believe it is wrong to have abortions but you never know the situation. If the woman is sick and should not be having a baby or it is from a rape then a woman should have the right to deal with it how she wants. The Supreme court should not be able to make a law that can effect a woman's health or life so majorly and if they feel an abortion is neccesary then they should be able to have one.

Abortion is not something anyone should have a say over unless it is the woman herself. There are several reasons why it is wrong for others to have a say in whether someone carries a child around for nine months. Only the person enduring that situation should have a say. Pregnancy from rape is definitely something the person pregnant should have a say in; whether they want to have their attackers child or not is up to them. How torture would it be to walk around with an obvious physical reminder for nine months? I do not believe the supreme court in El Salvador has any right to control whether a woman carries a child or undergoes an abortion; it is not their decision to make. That goes for any and all countries who force abortion laws upon pregnant women.

This is completely unfair! Women should have the right to choose whether they want to keep the fetus (fetus-not necessarily baby) alive or have an abortion, especially in the case of rape or possible death of the mother or infant. To hold a 50 year sentence over the mother's head is wrong. Especially when having a baby affects women significantly more than it effects men! While I personally do not think I could have an abortion, I should be able to have a choice in the matter, as should every other woman. Other people should not decide how a woman lives her life, it should be her choice alone. This is just another way for women to be controlled! And if she can live with killing a potential child then so be it. Its a sad prospect, that I personally don't think I could choose, but at the end of the day it is her choice, not anyone elses.

However, I do feel that after the baby is developed to a certain point, it should not be allowed to be aborted. After it forms a brain, it is a baby, and should be treated as one. But while it is a fetus, it is the mother's choice.

I think it's really sad that still so many countries in Latin America ban abortion because I think this is a big sign of a non-advanced country. Women should have the right to decide for themselves what's the best. Especially for pregnancies which arise out of a rape. I think it's already hard enough for raped women to get over that and having a child from the rapist makes it even harder.

I firmly believe that women should have the right to choose since abortion affects them the most. Like with what everyone said, the government has no right to dictate whether or not to abort a baby. Abortion allows women to get on with their lives (for a lack of better phrasing). If the pregnancy was a result of rape or accident, being forced to keep the baby would potentially lead to emotional distress, especially if the woman is at a young age or unable to take care of another person. In my perspective, outlawing abortion would result in more children being raised in unfit conditions and possibly be neglected, abandoned, or abused (emotionally/physically) by the mothers who wanted to have abortions.

A woman that is seriously ill should have the right to abort a child for her health and the best interest of her in mind. A woman that was raped and is now carrying a baby should also have the right to abort it for her physical and emotional health. Abortion should be up t the parents, and i believe the supreme court does not have the right to say that

I believe that the supreme court does have a say on whether it should be illegal or not. Abortion is killing an unborn child.

Pro choice is the way to go about handling things like this. Personally I feel there is more harm being caused from those "Pro Life" people taking radical action against abortion doctors and clinics. If a young woman doesn't have the physical capacity to handle giving birth to a child, and she may end up dying from it, then abortion may be the best way to handle saving her life. Most of the people I see preaching pro life are the people who aren't educated in this subject enough, trying to stop total abortion, and taking radical action against it.

An unborn child is not able to defend itself, that is obvious. A woman pregnant with a child who may die from the pregnancy can't defend herself. That makes no sense to me. An unborn child taking the life of their mother and growing up with only a father or foster parents seems much worse to me than to have never had to be brought into a world like that at all. There is a give and take in this situation. Not everyone is going to win.

Someone who is willing to give their life for their unborn child should be allowed to do so; someone who is not capable or unwilling to sacrifice themselves for their unborn child should also have that same decision. No government, no group, no other person is allowed to make that decision but the person enduring the situation.

I dont think the Government has the right to take away your right to anything under all circumstances. There is morality involved and because of that, it doesnt make sense to rule out something thats been debated for years. Abortion is wrong yet under some situations, its the best route. El Salvador ended the debate by taking abortion away completely and that I believe was the wrong step.
