Recently, a video was released of one direction band members, zayn malik and louis tomlinson, was surfaced of them smoking mary j down in Peru. Marijuana is NOT legal there, however, THE RULE IS NOT ENFORCED, as possession is not punishable if it is for personal and immediate consumption in quantities not exceeding eight grams
Many parents are complaining and denying their daughters their right to see them on their 2014 Stadium tour. Tomlinson shimself hoots the video and narrates along in the back of a SUV as the pop stars drive through Lima, Peru, to a show at the Estadio Nacional where One Direction performed to a sold out 40,000-person crowd on April 27. The video is edited down to five minutes, showing the two pass a joint around and get goofy in the back seat.
Louis states, "Thats just Zayn warming up there before the show, Tomlinson says. Zayn takes his job very seriously. He makes sure he goes through a two-hour intense warm up regime before every show, just to get himself in the zone. One very, very important factor to Zayns warm up, of course is Mary J, herself. In fact Im presenting it to him now for some fantastic singing.
Later, Tomlinson looks out the window at a police officer on a motorbike escorting them and says, Hes having a look. Hes thinking. Im sure I can smell an illegal substance in there. And hes hit the nail on the head.
Do you think this is wrong? Many believe this was a stunt by their management played on purpose and that it was suspiciously planned in order to shift the band's look/edginess..what do you think about that?Do you think they hold a higher standard as stars? Or are they human too and it is irrelevant? Should parents have the right to be upset? How is this is comparison to numerous other musicians handling drugs, such as the Beatles?
A band like One Direction has a lot of influence on their fans which are mainly younger teens and i feel that if they see their favorite band smoking weed they may start thinking its not so bad to follow them and smoke.
They are human too but thats what makes this relevant, they should be punished like everyone else, I hate stars because they can do what ever they want. people have the right to be upset, these are just 5 stupid guys who get to do what ever they want because they can sing a couple songs
They shouldn't be treated any different from everyone else. The media needs a pop singer that will not do illegal drugs so young teens has a good influence.
Although One Direction members are human and are allowed to make mistakes as the rest of us are, they need to realize that their decisions have a massive impact on their young fans. Even though possession isn't punishable in Peru, they were still breaking the law. I think it is dumb of them to record what they're doing in the first place, even though it was never meant to be shown to the public. I don't believe that their manager would pull a publicity stunt of this magnitude, as this is a very controversial video.
Honestly I understand that they have a lot of influence and that smoking marijuana is illegal but they are adults and can do what they want. I understand why parents are upset and i think they should receive the same punishment as everyone else.
Honestly, just about everyone has smoked pot at some point in their life, and i don't really care if they smoke or don't. I already expected that. I think it was a management stunt to look more edgy like what Miley is doing. I think its just done to stir up controversy. Everything in the industry is done for a reason, to bring up relevance, to look "cool" and "edgy". I think there is a higher standard for them that exists, but i don't think there should be. Many of the people that are slamming them probably have smoked pot before. I feel like parents have the right to be pissed and boycott their shows because they don't want that exposed to their little girls, but i feel like this is done so they seem more grownup. As for their drug use and the Beatles, i dont think its anything in the same. Everyone does now, but back then i think something like that could have ruined you completely, but then again it was the 60s so idk.
Even thought the members of One Direction have grown up and are adults now, they are still role models for millions of young people around the world. They are setting a bad influence and smoking pot is illegal. They should at LEAST be smart enough to do it in private and not record themselves.
Its not bad because i know a lot of little kids that listen to miley cyrus and watch what she does. I'm sure their not going to lose fans but parents do have a right to be upset.
1D is doing the exact same thing as Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus did, and that is smoke pot. So it's really none of my concern, because almost every celebrity tried an illegal drug once in their life.
I think it is unnecessary that they had to post the video/take the video in the first place. If they are going to smoke pot at least keep it between them. they don't need to be influencing their fans and or showing their fans that kind of behavior.
Seeing that they were the ones filming this i think it is ridiculous. They did not need to be filming this in the first place and even if they did film it they didnt need to post it. I mean they are going to do what they want, they are teenagers, but they didnt need to show the entire world.
Is it wrong to smoke pot? for me the answer is no. It's just a plant. I don't think that smoking bud makes you "edgy" or "cool". I do think that the fact that these guys feel the need to record themselves smoking is stupid and absolutely pointless. I think that fact that marijuana has been demonized so much in western culture is the only reason this is a story. If you saw a performer having a alcoholic drink before a performance you think nothing of it because it's legal. Even though last year alone there were 2.5 million people worldwide that died from alcohol-related causes. On the other hand Marijuana has killed no one... ever. There is not one single reported death from marijuana related causes ever and people have been cultivating since 4000 BC. But lets throw a big fit because some D-bags record themselves smoking and not do anything about the MILLIONS of people dying yearly from alcohol. Peoples ignorance never ceases to amaze me....

I find this hilarious because with bands like one direction you would think they want to keep their image up for their fans but i guess that's not the case.
