Donald Sterling tells Anderson Cooper: I was 'baited' into 'a terrible mistake'
Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling says he's sorry but feels he was "baited" to make racist comments, nearly two weeks after the NBA fined him and banned him for life for his remarks in a recorded conversation.
"When I listen to that tape, I don't even know how I can say words like that. ... I don't know why the girl had me say those things," he told CNN's Anderson Cooper in an exclusive interview set to air on Monday.
"Well yes, I was baited," Sterling said. "I mean, that's not the way I talk. I don't talk about people for one thing, ever. I talk about ideas and other things. I don't talk about people."
I think it's hard to tell. How do we know whether he is lying or telling the truth. It would make sense that he would lie to get out of the situation but it is also possible he is telling the truth and was baited. I personally feel he meant what he said when he made his racist remarks.
I do think he actually thought that because it wasnt the first time he has said racially insensitive things. Hes just trying to make it not look as bad as it was.
I dont think it matters if he meant it or not but it does not matter because it still offends people and that can not be changed. He could have been baited but he cant do anything about it now.
Due to the fact he has previously made racist comments i would say he was not baited and is lying to save his reputation/career. Its hard to tell with what's provided but that's what I think.
i dont think he was baited, he had said offensive things to people with regards to race. i think hes just trying to clear his name by saying he didnt mean it
Even though he made racist comments he still has the right to free speech. People might not like it but he has that right just like every other American.
