In an attempt to take down the Knights Templar cartel it was found that the mayor of the major commercial port city, Lazaro Cardenas had ties to the cartel. The mayor was also arrested with several other leaders of the cartel. Recently the federal government have been trying to disband the Knights Templar and the Militia force that was created in opposition of the cartel. So far federal forces has taken over security at Lazaro Cardenas and the militia force is supposed to disband on may 10th.
What punishment should be placed on the mayor? Should he be made an example? What other steps should the federal government take to take down the Knights Templar cartel?
The mayor should be punished for his crimes and put in prison. I do definitely believe that the Knights Templar need to be stopped and arrested, however, I know it's not that easy. It unfortunately takes a lot of effort and man power to halt such a strong cartel and it'll be a while before significant halts are made to take away Knights Templar's power and influence.
i personally am not surprised that the mayor was found with ties to the cartel because he definitely isn't the first political leader in mexico to have ties to the cartel. i think he should face major punishment along with the members of the cartel for his actions and they should all be put in prison. the knights Templar have done a lot of corruption in mexico and i know it isnt just that easy to go out and get them but they need to be stopped.
I think that the mayor should be sentenced to prison and think the government should take whatever steps are necessary to stop the cartel and insure safety for their people.
The mayor should be brought to justice and not be treated any differently then any other criminal, perhaps he should be treated harsher because of his position in power and the trust people had in him. He should go to prison for a long time.
I agree with Gigi he should receive the same punishment as everyone else and be put in prison. They should also investigate to make sure no one else is associated and they should take measures to take down the cartel over time.
