I had the opportunity to visit my older son's first grade classroom last Friday and was struck by - as I always am when I go into my kids' classes - the visible, exuberant love of learning that every student displayed, their sheer enjoyment and being in school, doing their work, talking with their teacher. I know that for some of you, you still feel that joy all day every day, but for others not so much.
Where/when/why do you feel like you stopped loving everything about school?
And, there must be something that you love now, whether it's an overarching thing like "I love my Social Science classes" (of course) or something small like "I love doing stoichiometry problems in Chem because they totally make sense to me," or one or more of your extracurricular pursuits - what rocks your school world right now? And why?

I still love school overall. I think the reason for that is because I've always been someone who absolutely loves being around people (most of the time). In particular, I LOVE having discussions with my classmates, whether it be in World Religions, World Affairs, or Language Arts. In particular, I love discussing philosophy with others. I think most people stopped loving school when it no longer became their only way to communicate with others. As we get older, people are able to utilize things like phones or their cars in order to talk to and meet their friends, instead of only being able to do it at school. However, because I don't have deep philosophical conversations with others outside of school, school will remain an important place to me. Unfortunately, school stops being fun when I get home and have to do homework.
I still love learning and being in school every day. Although, i feel like I enjoy learning the arts more nowadays, and I realized throughout my years in high school that the arts, particularly film making, is where I want to excel in my career. This is why I find myself more enthusiastic towards going to Hawk Talk, than Algebra 2,and more leaning to taking advanced drawing rather than trig. I think why some students lost there enthusiasm towards school is either because they are not sure what they want to do in life and have no general positive direction, or they maybe lost their curiousness after being in this world for 18 or so years(not a lot of experience really),especially compared to a younger kid who is brand new, fresh on life.
Although I don't love school, I love learning. I feel as though many high school students are so stressed out with schoolwork and the pressure of getting into college and getting good grades that it overshadows the love of learning. I find it hard to enjoy myself when I am constantly worrying about the assignments I have due the next day. I feel as though school is such a competitive atmosphere and that tests and GPAs aren't always the best way to determine a student's intelligence.
I love learning when its something i enjoy. That's why i'm excited for college because i get to chose the classes i want to some extent. I think the reason kids are beginning to lose interest is because school is very repetitive. It can be very stressful when you begin to fall behind in school. I personally love hanging out with my friends at school and learning the subjects that are interesting to me such as history and this class.
After a semester of going to school everyday, you start going thru a phase, where your mind stops being motivated about going to school, and that's when your grades start to drop. Quoting David Guetta, "love is gone".
I love school and learning how things work. Seeing how the world turns and always learning new hings is great. The only downside to it is just having teachers that seem to hate their jobs and just hate being here. That feeling is often spread to their students. Along with just the repetitiveness of studying for test after test with nothing new, year after year, Kids start hating school. We need more teachers to inspire us and show us how we can apply what we use in the real world. Often times myself i have gotten teachers who seem to not care or are there just to get a pay check and, i usually end up hating that class.
I think we start not liking school when it comes towards the end. The classes get harder and the homework keeps pilling on. Sometimes teachers don't understand that we have other priorities besides school work. Some of us play sports and have practice everyday and when we come home we don't have the energy to do homework. Teachers don't realize that we some of have family issues that prevent us from having a good study environment. For seniors specifically I think we are just kinda over high school and want to go to college already.
I can honestly say, and speak for a majority of kids nowadays that i no longer love school. No offense. This is due to the sheer fact it is no longer about absorbing as much information and learning new interesting things, but the letter grade you get and being able to get into a good college. It is quite sad because i used to love school, but it has turned into a bunch of memorization and nothing that sinks in because of the amount of work i do. I definitely miss those days like you saw in your son's elementary school. I stopped loving school sophomore year, when the emphasis on college came and my level of intelligence and knowledge became based solely on the letter printed on my report card. That letter does not and should not represent a person. I don't have suggestions because i understand we need a grading system, but i do feel like school have gotten more competitive with the generations and continues to rise, pressures teenagers and driving them to the edge.
I can honestly say that I have stopped enjoying school nowadays. Once students are towards the end of high school I think that they are just ready to leave and they are just over everything. I used to love going to school but now it has just become so routine and has started to become boring because of that. People put so much pressure on our future and our plans for college that students just get overwhelmed and start to dislike school. I like being able to hang out with my friends and i like the social aspect of school, however it is not my favorite thing to wake up and go to school everyday.
I love learning. I may not love homework or long boring lectures from [redacted] but i do love learning and obtaining knowledge. I genuinely enjoy learning something i did not know before, its like upgrading your brain its awesome.
Never Stop Your Pursuit Of Knowledge...

I have stopped loving school. When your a kid your teachers interact with you more and there's more activities that made it fun. But as you get older its more based on the grades you get to get into college and get a good education. It's a lot more stressful than it used to be when we were younger.
I've always loved learning but I can't say the same for school. High school is based more on getting good grades and subjects being drilled into your brain. Education to me is learning things that you want to learn on your own will. I educate myself and I enjoy the things i learn but I can't say the same about school. I do however enjoy courses like Social Studies and Psychology and Religions.
I've always enjoyed school, learning, and socializing, but I don't enjoy stress, homework, and mental breakdowns. There is so much pressure on students to do well, that people can not enjoy their daily life. Everything is more stressful and you can't enjoy school because you are always thinking about the future.
