North Korea has opened its first ever luxury skii resort featuring 120 luxury hotel rooms and 11 ski runs. There has been much controversy over this resort as Austrian, French, and Swiss governments would not provide the ski lifts needed to finish the resort. North Korea ended up getting the lifts from a Chinese company.
The author reports that while he was there he met both Dennis Rodman and a 20-member girl music group who is said to be hand picked by Kim himself. The feeling from the article is that the ski resort is all a façade, much like the rest of the "tourist" parts of North Korea.
I think that opening a Luxury Ski Resort might've been their attempt at bringing in some money to put into their own economy. Not sure of how well that'll do, but it could've been an attempt
This is a typical move for a communist country. Just like the USSR in the past, North Korea is building all sorts of extravagant things to try and convince the world that communism is amazing and to distract people from the widespread suffering of their people.

I agree! They want us to believe that it is so great there and that their citizens are very happy in this Communistic environment.
I agree, they spent all this money on a new resort. While all that money could have gone to helping out the people of North Korea. And not trying to show off to the world.
I find it absolutely ridiculous that North Korea is willing to open up a luxury ski resort which will probably attend to little to no guests other than government officials while most people in the country starve to death. How will building a ski resort benefit the country?
um how about instead of building this "luxurious" resort, feed the hungry. And most people of North Korea wouldn't even be able to afford this, they barely have enough to eat a proper meal..
I think this is kinda stupid, I mean they're building this "luxury" ski resort for tourists...HELLO, your own people don't want to live there what makes you think tourists are going to come flooding your boarders for a ski resort...
