The MegaMillions lottery jackpot is approaching ONE BILLION DOLLARS. Partially because there was a rule change in October and consequently individuals are now far less likely to win (not that the odds were all that good before).
(If you're 18) Have you ever purchased a lottery ticket?
(at any age) Would you play the lottery? Do you think that sort of gambling should be legal (like it is) or does it encourage too many foolhardy economic decisions to be something the government should support?
If you did play and if you did win, what are some things you would spend the money on (remembering that about half of it will go to taxes!)?
Lego, Cav (the Lego brand name was derived from the Danish expression "leg godt" - play well - and lego also translates in Latin as "I study" or "I put together"...really, one of the world's most perfect words!)
i would not play the lottery because the odds are redonkulous. I only enjoy watching things about the winners and how they ruin their lives because they dont understand how the lottery works.
i find gambling like this to be kinda dumb. although every year at a Christmas party, my grandma gets us all scratchers as a gag gift. never won anything though :(
On my 18th Birthday I bought lotto scratchers, but I've never really been interested in the big lotto. Only because I rather spend my money on something I need, rather then a ticket for a large amount of money where the chances are not even real. I understand why people buy it, but money really shouldn't be everything to someone. Life has more to offer then just money.
I don't think I'll ever participate in the lottery because I'd rather spend my money on other things rather than investing in a game that has such low winning odds. It seems that mainly people participate in the lottery because they are convinced they have "high" odds of winning when in reality they don't.
However, if I did win the lottery I'd probably pay for my college tuition with the money and travel.
I would play the Lottery every once and a while, if I'm at a gas station and had a couple extra dollars just for the heck of it. I probably would save 20,000 for my college fund. Then buy an iphone, then buy my mom a new SUV, get my Nana a new car, help out with my Nana's and Auntie's mortgage. If I had extra save most of it and spend a little bit for fun.
I always made my dad buy lotto scratchers when I was young cause i thought we would win, but after like the 25th one I figured that I probably wouldn't win anything. I regret making my dad buying those cause we could've used the money on better things, like candy.
I don't see a reason to not play every once in a while! It doesn't cost that much money and its kind of a fun and entertaining pass time. Plus what if I did win!?
I would definately spend the money paying for college first! :(
But after that I think I would help my parents out with their bills, get a new car, and take some trips across the world!
I know my mom's work does a pool and they all just put in a certain amount and then they buy lotto tickets with the money...They haven't won yet but I think it's the pure thrill of the possibility that makes it fun... I mean my mom buys me scratchers for fun and I still love doing them, esp. with my 89 year old grandma :)
I agree that it's highly unlikely to win the lottery, but it is thrilling to think that you have a chance to win such a vast amount of money. Some people believe that if they'll win the lottery, they'll be set for life. But if you don't know how to manage that money, it will be gone before you know it. If I won the lottery, then I would first give 10% to my church as a tithe. Then I would give some money to my parents so that they could buy a huge house. Also, I would set some aside for my tuition, use some to buy plane tickets for my grandparents to come visit, and some for charities, like the ones that provide free surgery for kids with deformed lips and other operations. I would also go to Disneyland with my family.
