Illinois gov.: Burris should resign from Senate

CHICAGO Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn says Sen. Roland Burris should resign his post for the good of the state.

Quinn said Friday that his fellow Democrat, Burris, is an honorable man. But he says controversy surrounding Burris' appointment has cast a shadow over his service in the Senate.

The governor says a new senator should be chosen by special election.

Burris was appointed by former Gov. Rod Blagojevich, who was later impeached and removed from office.

Burris initially said there was no discussion of him doing Blagojevich any favors in exchange for the appointment. But Burris later acknowledged he did discuss the vacant seat with the governor's friends and allies. He says he was asked to raise money for Blagojevich but couldn't find anyone willing to contribute.

Do you think that Burris should resign, and if so why?

I think that he should resign. I also think that governors should not appoint replacments but it should always go to a special election. He might be a nice guy but any talk of helping a governor proved of wrong doing is unacceptable. Atleast he admited trying to help Ex-Gov Blago which takes alot of guts. Won't happen though casue democrats don't want to risk loosing a seat in the senate to a republican. Loosing a seat would make it even harder for obama to pass any sort of legislation. If not for the sake of his connection ot a Ex-Gov he should resign so a republican might win and I might be able to not have to worry about universal health care.

He should absolutely resign. This pick was tainted from the beginning and I'm sure that if it wasn't for the color of his skin (a brilliant Blagojevich tactic) he would have never been accepted into the Senate. He said he didn't raise any money for the former governor but this is bringing out the truth. I don't care if this man is a good person. the political judgement around the pick is terrible. I'm smelling Al Sharpton protest part 2 if he is asked to resign. But I seriously doubt the he will resign, unless a commission 100% proves he tainted.

I think Burris should resign from the Senate. Before, Burris said that he didn't have any illegal favors done for the then-Governor Blagojevich in exchange for his Senate seat. Then, he changed his story. Yes, I do have to admit that Burris confessing to what he has done takes a lot of courage. But honestly, I'm SO SICK AND TIRED OF HEARING THE NAMES BLAGOJEVICH, CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, AND BURRIS THROWN IN THE MEDIA FOR MONTHS NOW!!! Just get Burris out of the Senate so I don't have to hear those names again!!! LOL!!!
