in ST. PETERSBURG, Russia Two young men one of them a butcher have been arrested on suspicion of killing a 16-year-old girl and eating parts of her body, Russian prosecutors said Wednesday.

The girl disappeared after leaving her home in St. Petersburg for school on Jan. 19, city prosecutor's spokesman Sergei Kapitonov said. He said she was killed that night, and that body parts believed to be hers were found in plastic bags scattered around the city.

Police arrested Yuri Mozhnov, a florist, and Maxim Golovatskikh, a street-market butcher and one-time psychiatric patient on Saturday, Kapitonov said.

The suspects, both 19, knew the victim, and she accompanied them voluntarily to an apartment rented by another acquaintance on the day she went missing, Kapitonov said. Prosecutors believe they drowned the girl in a bathtub.

"The arrestees said they ate the girl's body parts because they were hungry," Kapitonov said. They told investigators they baked some body parts with potatoes, he said.

They allegedly disposed of her bagged remains in garbage containers and bodies of water. Bags with body parts were found in at least two locations, he said. Both men are being held on suspicion of murder.

St. Petersburg news Web site fontanka.ru cited a top city prosecutor, Andrei Lavrenko, as saying investigators believe the suspects decided to kill the victim after an argument erupted between her and Golovatskikh.

Moscow-based tabloid Komsomolskaya Pravda on Wednesday cited a department head at the St. Petersburg forensic medicine office, Vitaly Sysoyev, as saying the body parts had not been positively identified as those of the girl, who he said was still officially listed as missing.

Kapitonov said he was unaware of that.

Lavrenko said investigators found traces of blood when they ripped out plumbing and floorboards in the apartment, fontanka.ru reported.

Mozhnov was convicted of robbery in 2005, Kapitonov said. He said Golovatskikh had been treated in the past at a psychiatric hospital.



I know this is distirbing, but if these two suspects are convicted what should there punishment be? Whats your opinion on this story?

I think they should be put in the electric chair. Or being killed and have their body parts be eaten with potatoes[hahahaa]. Seriously though, that's the most disgusting thing i've heard in a long time. 'Because we were hungry,' is not a viable excuse to EAT SOMEONE.

this is one of the grosest things ive heard in a long time. eating an innocent girl because they were hungry. like karen said, definately not a legitament excuse to eat someone...

I think that they should spend life in jail. Not only should they spend life in jail but they should be sent to pyschiatric ward or something. People dont eat people just cause they're hungry. They cleary are mentally unstable and should get the punishment they deserve but most importantly get treatment and be in a safe place where they cannot harm anyone else.

I agree with Karen on this. But in all reality who would be the one to eat THEIR body parts...? This also makes me wonder if these two men were poor and couldnt afford food, or if they simply enjoyed killing/eating the girl. Distirbing is a bit of a understatement.

this article is shocking and disturbing.
it just shows how crazy people are...
common how desperate were they to kidnap a girl, kill her in a bathtub
then eating her internal organ? psycho's.

if they were that desperate for food
they could have gone to a near by soup kitchen
or looked in the garbage.

there's no need to kill a innocent girl...

they need mental help. FAST.

I definitely would like to see the people responsible for this young woman's death behind bars. And I agree with Sandy that if the florist and the butcher are found guilty they should be sent to a psych ward to help with their mental instability. But I'm curious as to how they found out that the body had been eaten, stomach pump?

wow this article is very creepy! it doesn't seem like something that would happen in real life. I think that the creeps who ate her should get the death penalty.

i don't really know how the government determines the certain details about punishment. i do know that i don't believe we, as humans, have the right to take away another human's life, but i do believe they should be severly punished for what they did. it's disgusting. obviously, they need pysciatric help. maybe they could be put in jail for life, and if that doesn't work and they need to released then instead of parol they can be put in a mental institute. i'm not really sure what the best thing is...but something needs to be done.

Eww! That is disgusting. People come up with the dumbest excuses sometimes. Obviously these boys have problems. Normal people don't just eat people because they get mad at them! They should rott in prison, and suffer! Or..like karen said..someone should eat them. hahaha.

Yeah, this is pretty weird, but I'm not too keen on saying they should receive a death penalty.  Instead, I think they should be sent to some kind of mental hospital so they can get help.  They obviously need a lot of help since they're only excuse for killing her was because they got in an argument, then decided to eat the girl because they got hungry.

I believe they should be proved guilt first and if they are convicted then put them on a huge stove where you have a huge pot of water. Turn on the stove, drop in a bunch of taters and maybe some celery and onions then waiting for the irony to wear off.

Option 2: Leave them alone in a room till they kill each other and ones eats the other. Heck, I put money on Maxim!

Thats raunchy...... Definitaley they should be found guilty. It doesnt matter where you live or how you live, canibalism aint the way to do it. One dollar can equal cheesburger at mcdonalds, keep that in mind.
