More than 50,000 residents of northern Colombia remained homeless Monday after the rain-swollen Magdalena River broke through dikes and flooded towns and surrounding areas.
In the town of Plato, the water flooded 4,000 homes and buildings, leaving 40,000 people homeless. The floodwaters washed away 50 houses.
"We need help," one anguished woman said on the newscast. "Don't you see that the town is totally flooded? We don't have anything in this town. No one helps us here."
Should U.S. send in aid, or is this Columbias problem?
the u.s should encourage red cross or doctors with out borders, or people who build houses to go over there. it doesn't have to be tax money, it could be donations to certian originizations.

Hmm, if the US sent aid every time there is a flood anywhere in the world (ok, even if we are considering only Columbia, Sudan, and such) the US economy would be ruined
How about someone besides other countries' governments? Target gave $30,000 to a toy drive fundraiser yesterday. Maybe big companies like that can give small donations. Lots of little things to add up
i agree with robert and believe thats a great idea, however i do believe this puts more presure on columbian government to do something to help their own people. unfortunatly i still don't believe the columbian govt will do anything, so i do believe regardless of our economic crisis t\hat we should send some help to those in need.
I think right now we should be worrying about our own people and our own economy. You know, a lot of countries don't like the US and I just think its funny though how we always are looked upon to save the day for everyone else.
A lot of people are less fortunate then us... That's why they ask for help. I mean if we were a 3rd world country, and had a flood, we would ask for help too
Not to sound insensitive, but maybe people should stop building their homes in areas that repeatedly are hit with hurricanes and floods. We can not make nature bend to our will, no matter how hard we try.
i think some UN assistance is needed the US cannot keep helping these countries that are ravish by mother nature. the world needs to step in and be supportive, the US has its own issues.
