This article was not exactly traditional, it is a slide show that depicts the elderly in the Japanese Islands of Okinawa.
The slideshow depicts the "Centenarians" of Okinawa Japan, as elderly people ranging from 80-100 who still work, exercise and even dance. Alzheimers, cancer, and heart disease is virtually absent among the elderly and they continue to work and exercis 6 out of the 7 days of the week.
According to the Centarians themselves they believe their health is a testament to years of work and exercise, and healthy diet of tofu, vegetables, fruits and other nutritious foods.
However the young in Okinawa are starting to develope problems of obesity and heart disease (due to fast food chains such as McDonalds)while the old are still alive and well.
What do you think is more important, exercise or a healthy diet? Would you want to live to be a hundred?
i think that excercise is most important, but a diet is necessary as well, and there is no way i want to live to be 100, that sounds horrible. I dont want to go through the years eating jello and playing mahjong and bingo with all the other geezers, i would much rather die doing something amazing
i don't know who wouldn't want to live to be a hundred if you are well and healthy. And i believe both exercise and a healthy diet is necessary if you want to lead a long life, however i do believe in the motto everything in moderation!
I think that exercise is a more important factor. If you exercise when you're younger, you make up for when you get older and can't do as many physical tasks. A healthy diet is important, but if I had to pick one of the two it would be exercise. I would like to live to be 100, but still have my boyish charm.
i think its always important to maintain a healthyy diet while also excersizing.. im not so sure about living to be 100 as long as you have a long happy and fufilled life then i'll live as long as life lets me stay!
i think that both exercise and diet are key to this. I mean you could exercise everyday and eat junk food and be nowhere with your health. is the combination that has made them able to do all these things at such an age...
and personallly id love to be 100 you would see the world change before you, i think id be amazing...
I think both are really important, if you do one and neglect the other, you're still not gonna be very healthy.
I would like to live to be 100 if I was as healthy and robust as the people in Okinawa. Definitely not if I was a vegetable or didn't have a very high quality of life.
I want to be alive to see my great grandkids. That would be awesome.
I think a healthy diet is more important. but if you want to be like an Okinawa person, a combination of both seems to be key. and I would only want to live to be 100 if i was healthy. my g-pa is 86 and he still cut down giant trees and hikes around. but he has always been on a good diet and he gets exercise.
Both are essential to vitality and longevity. I probably wont live to that ripe old age of 100, seeing as how I survive on a diet of cheeseburgers and pizza. Not quite as healthy as tofu, but definitely tastes better.
I think both are improtant. I would like to live to be a hundred years old. It's so cool. I've read an interview of one old man who is 98. He lived through revolution and both world wars. He can write memoirs...
