As we've previously discussed, there have been an incredible number of pirate attacks off the coast of Somalia. There have been 95 attacks and 39 ships were seized. There has been a call for a military blockade, however, Nato rejected the idea. There has been a suggestion for arming ships and having aerial support. Yet, this idea was rejected because of the danger it would pose to the crew on the merchant tankers.
Which of these ideas is the better solution? Or Do you have a suggestion that trumps them both?
They should post NATO ships along the cost of Somalia. This along with air support would deture all the pirates. And if it didn't they they would just get blown out of the water.

Any military ships out there would do fine. NATO would be best case scenerio, but India had a confrontation with what they believed was a pirate mothership last week, and left it burning in the Gulf of Aden. Pretty good, eh?
Nato would be best case, but Nato just doesn't feel a blockade is their issue. Which is understandable. I think that Scott is right, escorting is the way to be. I'm not really into giant ship firefights.
Does the fact that SNL was discussion Somalian warlords and the related problems all the way back in the early 90s (that sketch originally aired when I was a senior at EDHS!) mean that this is a problem far beyond our control? Or that intervention by the world community is long overdue? Or something in the middle?

J.Chain, I'm fairly certain a ninja's training doesn't encompass fighting on the open seas. There's a whole different balance of the elements.Any who, I think the leaders of the different firms doing the trading through that region should perhaps use the old convoy system first deployed in the world war 1. Maybe hire a third party security firm as their protection since NATO doesn't seem willing to. It would be slower and more expensive, but at least trade would continue.
ninja's can do anything, anywhere, that's why they're ninjas. so option number one, definitely ninjas, if that doesn't work out the NATO ships sound the best way to go
seriously cant we and some other countries.. or you know not even us... cant the other countries out there with help of stronger countries form some organization of force to stop some pirates? it seems like they are being lazy
