Did you know that the World Series was so named because either (a) a newspaper called the World sponsored the original one or (b) news reports after the 1884 matchup between the Providence Grays of the National Leauge and the NY Metropolitan Club of the American Association in "The Championship of the United States," several newspaper articles referred to the victorious Grays as the "World Champions" (there is conflicting history as to which of these accounts is most true)? Either way, the name has nothing to do with it being any sort of global championship (which should make sense since Canada is the only country besides the U.S. to ever have a team compete in it :) )
A little more releveant to our course (though the World Series, as an event that involves millions of fans worldwide as participants, prospects, and spectators, is certainly a legitimate contemporary world affair), did you know that from 1952 to 1976, if the American League won the World Series in a Presidential election year, the Republican candidate won the election, and if the National League won, then the election went to the Democrat? Might change who you're root, root rooting for when you sing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" :) !! (see a full article about this, that also includes other election-year superstitions, at: http://americanhistory.about.com/od/elections/a/baseballpres.htm )
Lego, Cav (the Lego brand name was derived from the Danish expression "leg godt" - play well - and lego also translates in Latin as "I study" or "I put together"...really, one of the world's most perfect words!)
according to both John McCain and Senator Obama, the Red Sox will never win the pennant, let alone the world series. This really upsets Bill Murray...
true enough...Cubs, Red Sox, goat, Babe, who can tell the difference anyway?! :)
