This film was about a gang rape and murder that happened in 2012 and it was banned because the excerpts "appear to encourage and incite violence against women." Many believe that the blame is on society for putting women in second, behind men. A change in society is the only way anything will change. And others believe that this was just a documentary showing the facts what happened and that she is now a symbol and "Christ figure". Her death symbolizes the change that needs to happen.
Do you believe this film should be banned? Do you think a film containing this content should be seen as a lesson and movement or just offensive to women?
This film in my opinion is a complete example and eye opener to people that change is needed. Sometimes it takes visual actions for people to realize what is wrong around them.
This film should never have been considered for censorship or total banishment. Here in America, the average rate of rape victims is 1 in 3 women before they reach the age of 18. In India it i exponentially higher. The truth needs to be told. We cannot sugar coat the true nature of rape. It is horrific, it is horrendous, and it is sickening: but it happens, and it needs to be shown.
I don't believe that this film should be banned. However, it should be rated accordingly to its content. Censorship can be a dangerous thing, especially when it concerns the cover up of key world issues, in this specific instance, rape. It is an atrocious crime that people shouldn't have to witness or even experience, but I do feel like awareness should be increased seeing as how the crime itself is also on the rise all over the world. We should be actively and openly protesting against rape as opposed to hiding the fact that it even happens.
This film should not be banned. This film should be seen as a lesson. Rape happens and we need to take a look at why and how to stop it from happening.
I don't think it should be banned. This is the truth and movies impact by really reaching out to people. The important issue is not whether or not the movie should be banned, the issue is to solve this horrible crime of rape. People need to focus on the more serious issue that is harming more people than a film.
Films like these should not be banned because censorship of serious topics only avoids the true problems in society. Films like these need to be shown to show people reality and encourage people to take action to stop such wrong doing.
I do not think this film should be banned. Unfortunately it did happen and it can be looked at as a learning lesson and a movement as well. It is good to educate people on what is going on, no matter how harsh it might be.
I agree with christina and Jade that the film should not be banned but rather used as evidence to inform everyone of what is going on in other parts of the world and to not be so close minded
