Hi! My name is Madalyn Amato. I love history. Political and social issues are my top interests, and my favourite news source is BBC. I'm probably the only person who is considering a career in investigative journalism in this classroom. I also snort when I laugh: you've been warned.

Sunshine Cavalluzzi: Mama of the three smartest, funniest, and all-around most fabulous (and fabulously good-looking!!) children on the planet: Lucy (who's almost ten and a Brookhaven fourth grader), JD (who is eight and is in second grade at Brookhaven), and Micah (who is five and just started kindergarten at Brookhaven) and an EDHS grad from the famous class of '93. I'm proud to have coached the ROCK STAR, frequent Orange County CHAMPION EDHS Mock Trial team for the thirteen awesometastic years! I'm a UCSD grad (Go Fightin' Tritons!) and I spent a semester in London (the best thing I did in college - you ALL should study abroad!!).
I'm probably the only person here who has gone whitewater rafting in Switzerland with an Australian tour guide and four Korean women in their 50s-70s who were part of their church choir and sang Korean hymns in between rapids!!
I really really believe in Gandhi's idea that "You must be the change you wish to see in the world" and Margaret Mead's reminder to "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."
and I LOVE: my family, my amazing circle of friends and keeping up with them on Facebook, EDHS, Mock Trial, yummy food, traveling, swimming, THE BEACH, being a soccer mom, good quotes, good books...especially Harry Potter and To Kill A Mockingbird (Lucy's middle name is Harper after Harper Lee and Micah's middle name is Atticus), funny and fabulous TV (The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, Jeopardy!, The West Wing, The Office, Parks & Recreation, Top Chef, The Newsroom....), the awesometastic Disney cruise I took with my family two summers ago, and active, energetic, thoughtful, polite, and ongoing discussions about INTERESTING THINGS like CONTEMPORARY WORLD AFFAIRS!! :)
In terms of my favorite kinds of news, I (obviously) love politics and political news, college basketball [(GO DUKE!) - though I watch a lot less than I used to before I had kids; less, alas, with the arrival of each subsequent MiniCav :)], stories about people who completely defy the conventions with which they were raised, and the huge impact of small actions...the ways people decide to create change locally and globally.
I really love teaching this class and am VERY MUCH looking forward to this semester and your FANTASTIC contributions!!!

I am here to inform you about my presence. My name is Justin and I am 17 years old and a senior at EDHS. I like eating and sleeping. My favorite food is chicken. My favorite kind of news is probably Political news. I am probably the only person here that can play the piano by ear. I am the only person in this class who has probably spilled blood in the capitol building. I follow both basketball and football and enjoy studying history and biology. My favorite hobby is probably sleeping.
My name is Kayleen and I swim and I am a girl scout. I might be the only one in the room that makes jewelry and enters it in the orange county fair every year also has swam 3 and 6 miles in open water in less than 2 hours and I might be the only one trying to make it to the Oylimpic time trials for swim and open water swim. And where i get my news is abc news.

I love anything that involves boards. For example, I can surf, bodyboard, wakeboard, skateboard, and snowboard. My last name was originally spelled Blokdijk, but my Grandpa came to America and tried to Americanize it. I also am i die hard USC fan. I like college football better than professional.
