Methamphetamine seizures on the U.S./Mexican border have reached record highs this year. 14,732 pounds of meth have been confiscated by the San Diego field office. Drug traffickers have been using California as their main route of import into the country. Officials state that the increase in Meth smuggling has been caused by the rising price of cocaine.
What do you think that U.S. should do to combat this occurence and drug smuggling in general?
It is VERY important that something be done about the drug problem. However, it is very had to control the smuggling of the drugs. Whatever can be done, needs to be done.
There does need to be a strong force in place to halt the smuggling of drugs into this country. We can also do a great deal of damage to the drug market by educating students the dangers and complications of using. Showing the effects of drugs to young adolescents will, hopefully, push them not to use. When there is now buyers, the market will stop producing. At least in theory that is how it should go.
Although i do agree with stopping drug entry into the US it will be hard especially knowing that the US is already trying its best to secure the country and checking everyone coming into it.
I think they need to have better screenings for everyone who comes through the boarder. Drug control is a serious problem and unless we have some way to track down these drugs, the problem will not be solved.
I think there needs to be stronger security at the boarder to prevent drugs coming from into the US and as Dylan said educating young people about these drugs would hopefully steer them away from using them.
Here's the thing about this issue that really frustrates me. When the border issue is discussed in the context of drugs a lot of people are for securing the border, but when illegal immigration comes into the picture even more people call foul. Securing the border should have nothing to do with racism or being "anti-immigration" overall. The people that smuggle illegal aliens across the border are the cartels, and allowing this to go on by pointlessly bickering is allowing the cartels to get more money. I'm all for a steady flow of immigration that doesn't overwhelm our system, yet is open enough to allow as many people as possible to get a better opportunity. But before we reform our immigration system we need a secured border so that the cartels can be weakened.
To help combat drug smuggling into the U.S. I think we should focus on our borders and how people are getting into the country. I think we need better secuirty at our borders and allow less people to come into our country.
