The Key to Economic Recovery/Oil Independence - is the Keystone Pipeline a good idea?

The House of Representatives voted to approve the Keystone Pipeline, sending the bill to the Senate (where it is expected pass) and raising questions about whether or not President Obama will approve it.

Is this a good idea?  (There are pros and cons indicated in the article if this isn't an issue on which you're informed)  Should our focus be more centered on alternative energy- is oil the power of the past?

I think we need to better develop our economy before we invest in the research and possible implementation of more renewable energy. Renewable energy, overall, can be expensive! I believe that some sources have a lot of potential, and I hope that we don't become paranoid over nuclear energy. It can produce a LOT of energy and the only thing that comes out of the cooling towers is non-radioactive water vapor!
