Hong Kong's police department is being investigated for using excessive force on pro-democracy protesters. Their is evidence of police brutality in a video of Hong Kong police officers beating a man in handcuffs. Do you think that the police are abusing their power?
I think that the police are abusing their power because the person in the handcuffs should not be beaten. On the other hand, if he did something wrong he should just be sent to the police station where he will be dealt with.
It is an abuse of power when the police uses excessive force on someone, regardless of what crime he/she has committed. The fact that the protesters beaten were unarmed and that multiple police members assaulted him for minutes, only to again beaten up later as he was brought to the police station, shows that the police have clearly been abusing their power over the people.
The police are definitely abusing their power. There is no reason a man already in handcuffs should be beaten. Sometimes some force is necessary, but excessive force is an abuse of power.
There is no need to use force on a restrained person and the officer responsible should have to face repercussions for his brutality. The police and the Chinese government need to recognize their citizens right to protest and answer their calls for democracy.
The police are definitely abusing their power by using violence on someone who is already in handcuffs. It is unneccesary to use force when the person was already restrained and the victim getting hit was probably unable to do anything to protect himself. I think is it very wrong for police officers to beat protesters even if it is needed to maintain all the chaos.
The police always and everywhere abuse their power. If he is in handcuffs swinging at officers and attempting to escape then yes, use some force to control the situation but he the man was merely in cuffs, the police should not have beaten him.
The police and government are using their powers properly, under their form of government. From a democratic viewpoint, they are absolutely abusing their power. The amount of brutality shown towards these peaceful protests is horrific. Their continued effort to show no confrontation is honorable. I only hope the protesters can continue their campaign with as little physical confrontation as possible.
Dylan has a point. Under their government, the police are not abusing their powers. However, there is no reason to beat a man that is already in handcuffs. At the point, the man is harmless. The Chinese government needs to step up their game and listen to their citizens and at least reach a compromise. The protests are not going to stop until the citizens are happy.
