ISIS is advancing despite American airstrikes in the border town of Kobani. The Islamic forces have been reported to be moving closer and closer to the Turkish border. Turkish soldiers remain idle at the border, demanding the United States provide deeper support in overthrowing the Syrian President. Currently 186,000 Kurdish refugees have moved across the Turkish border. Should the U.S. be more involved with the attacks on ISIS in Kobani? Are airstrikes effective enough or do we need a more powerful force against ISIS?
I was against this whole operation but once Obama promised to contain and eventually eradicate this threat; then i understood that we had to go all in. No more sneaky classified operations on some parts of the threat and then taking a break why ISIS still remain at large. We now have a duty in the middle east and it is our responsibility to help the ones fighting for peace. We cannot blow up parts of Syria and then have other countries loose more territory.
As part of our duty, do we as Americans need to send in ground troops to help push our cause in the middle east? Another option may be to negotiate with Turkey and find common grounds on the overthrowing of the Syrian President. This would serve to send Turkish troops into Kobani and help stop the conflicts occurring there now.
I think it is extremely important for something to be done. It may not benefit us strategically, but there are people there whose lives will be put in danger. Not to mention, that will just be another area the Islamic forces will gain control of.
Many military analysts say that this is evidence of the need for ground troops to direct the air strikes more effectively.
A lot of people, understandably, may not understand what they mean by directing air strikes from the ground so here is an explanation. A small team of soldiers, usually a special forces team, is deployed behind enemy lines with advanced radio and laser equipment. What they do is seek out the targets and from the ground, point out the target to air crews with lasers and radio the coordinates to them. Of course there are other roles they can fill, that one is vital to a successful air op.
I believe our military should be more involved with the ISIS attacks because the airstrikes are not effective enough and the Islamic State is only going to grow stronger and gain more resources. I think we need more ground forces to have better control on what ISIS is doing.
Our military needs to be more involved beyond our airstrikes If the U.S. wants to stop the Islamic State from taking kobani and moving further into territories. The U.S. will need to deploy ground forces to create strong defense against ISIS if we want to stop their advance.
We got played by the Erdogan and the Turks, they said they were in to fight ISIS, now ISIS advances on a town on its border but it does nothing. Kobani is not a Turkish town, nor is it an Arab town, its a Kurdish town, so both the Arabs and the Turks seem uninterested in defending it. If Kobani falls the US and its broad coalition look bad, as despite their efforts, ISIS is still advancing, so the US wants Turkey to do something, so that the airstrikes don't look like failures.
This is where I think it gets interesting, Turkey will not defend Kobani unless the US and its coalition help fight against Bashar Al-Assad the murderous Syrian President. I think its brilliant on Turkey's part, blackmail, but brilliant. I for one wan't to see both ISIS and Assad fall so I am for doing what Turkey asks. If we declare war on Assad, I think it will help unite the Arabs, Turks, and Kurds more as none of them like Assad. Making the fight against ISIS easier.
