Obama vows to destroy ISIS and the implications of the upcoming anniversary of 9/11

I think that it is important to stop ISIS before it can become a significant problem for the US. I do believe that we are safer now that we were 13 years ago.

As humans, we have a duty on this planet to create and maintain peaceful living conditions for humanity. Groups such as ISIS do not share this goal, they are inhumane in my opinion. If you only wish to obtain power and cause mass destruction, where is your humanity? There is nothing humane or remotely stable about ISIS other than their thirst for chaos. I believe our actions to put down ISIS are extremely necessary and needed. In order for this to work, President Obama's actions explained in his speech must be executed precisely. We can not allow middle eastern countries to stand back or flee from these terrorist groups; failure for them to learn and persevere from any of this will only result in future terrorist groups and conflict in these countries. This means keeping our own ground troops from entering combat. Middle eastern countries need to grow up from the chaos they have been engolfed in for so many years. Actions such as making living conditions in such countries better will only stabilize the peoples' want for peace. The nicer your life is, the less you want it to change.

The United States has a lot of potential in this situation to leave the Middle East better than we found it. In a perfect world, Obama's plan will be executed and ISIS will cease to exist by the hands of middle eastern troops and U.S. airforce. We do not live in a perfect world, therefore, we can not allow ourselves to waver too far from the goals and expectations we have set going into this conflict.

I do believe we are safer in 2014 than we were in 2001. 9/11 was our wake up call, and America has responded by implementing deeper homeland security measures and further operations to detect and detain terrorist threats. There will always be terrorist threats, just like there will always be evil in the world. The best we can do is never forget, and remain ready to defend ourselves and others from the threats made to our freedom.

I agree with what Dylan said. The United States's decision to take action against ISIS is right in that we are still fighting for the ideals that our country advocated, yet we aren't going to be doing all the fighting. We do need to destroy ISIS or at least make serious efforts towards doing that before the ISIS situation spreads and affects the U.S. even more. Obama's speech talks about actions that plan to be executed perfectly, but of course nothing in the real world works that way.

Like Dylan wrote, we are safer than before in 2001 simply because we are better prepared for terrorist attacks. Before we never really dreamed of it, but after it happened paranoia spread and America beefed up security and measures against terrorist attacks.

ISIS must be destroyed, any group that commits such human atrocities deserves to be destroyed. This problem won't go away with bombings though, we need to help the PKK (Kurds who we deem terrorists) and the Iraqi government, control the regions. Also, ISIS is doing an excellent job of running the territory they control, they have provided running water and electricity to areas that have not had those commodities in years. Where did ISIS, a radical Islamic Group learn to run a state with such efficiency? I believe its because former Baathist Sunni former seculars, joined in because they would rather work with Sunni Extremists than Shia moderates.

We are safer now than we were thirteen years ago. As Dylan and Amy have said, 9/11 has prepared us in being ready and dealing with terrorist attacks.

ISIS definitely has to be dealt with, and even if Obama is telling America that he's going to take any necessary action to destroy ISIS, we need to continue to take ISIS seriously. They have proven themselves to be a quite serious problem.

I would hate for something like war to occur, however, we must do what is humane and right to protect those who can not protect themselves. This goes for everyone in the world who capable of doing so, not just the United States.

yes, ISIS needs to be destroyed. No terrorist group no matter where or who they are can not exist because they pose a threat to the whole world. ISIS is a serious threat and should be treated as one, the U.S. should be careful and take all measures to stop them. yes, i believe we are safer, but that doesn't mean we can wait back for them to strike. We have to take this group head on and eliminate all terrorist from the world.

ISIS can be stopped especially by the US government. It will take time but it can happen.

I think that ISIS should be stopped. They are slaughtering innocent people for their cause, showing their little value for humanity. I do believe that as humans we all have a right to be safe and protected. And that groups like ISIS who destroy should be stopped before they hurt others. I believe we are taking the ISIS threat seriously, and I think President Obama is doing the right thing by sending in armed forces to defeat ISIS, but at the same time are keeping Americans from fighting on the ground. The United States advanced technology allows us to do this, and I'm glad the President is trying to enforce as little American bloodshed as possible. I also believe we are safer today than we were in 2001. The government has put new protection laws in place that overall make the U.S. a safer place. Now, it would be nearly impossible to pull off a repeat of 9/11 because the safety measure of airplane travel. Also, the Patriot Act allows the government to listen in on phone calls to prevent the planning of such events. And while I don't particularly approve of this practice, I can see where the government is coming from. Therefore, I do believe with all the safety measure in place, that America is safe from threats such as ISIS and will continue to be for generations.

I do not believe that we are doing everything in our power to stop Isis. If we were to team up with Isis's neighbors I believe we would have more success. Also, who else in the world is trying to stop Isis? The uk is also making an effort to stop the murder of catives in Isis.

However, I do believe that we have made miraculous efforts to make the united states as safe as possible since the incidents on september 11,2001. But, we need to put those efforts toward making the entire world safe. Life, liberty and the persute of happiness was intended for all people, not just us.
