Between 1980 and 2000, obesity rates doubled among adults. About 60 million adults, or 30% of the adult population, are now obese. Direct health costs attributable to obesity have been estimated at $52 billion in 1995 and $75 billion in 2003. This seems to be an issue for our people's health, an issue on our economy, and much more. Yet this one science teacher lost 56 lbs. eating only MacDonalds for 6 months!

What should we do to help prevent this from happening to our future generations?
A lot of the issue, which we have discussed in class, is not merely people not WANTING to eat healthy, but it being cheaper. The problem can be best solved through cheaper ways to cultivate and produce fruits and vegetables. Yes, promoting healthy food is important as well, but overall, the cost is the issue, not the education of healthy living.
Alot of people want to eat healthier, but it is just so much more accessible and easy to just grab a bag of cookies then make a salad. Everyone should be held responsible for themselves because everyone knows what they SHOULD be eating, but in the end it is their choice how they live their lifestyle and eating habits.
I think that the government should focus more on healthy rather than processed foods. This will make healthy food cheaper encouraging more people to buy it.
Make Healthy food a lot cheaper. and since poverty and obesity are closely related we should probably set up program for healthy food o be distributed to low income house holds.
Obesity is very prevalent in America today and it is very sad. We need to do whatever we can to influence and inspire young kids and adults to be fit and active. Healthier foods need to be more accessible to Americans and affordable.
Obesity has always been a problem in the U.S. I think we need to do whatever we can to help prevent this. We can make healthier foods more affordable and there should always be healthier options.
My mom and I are currently doing the "paleo diet" where we only eat meat, fruits, and vegetables. It's expensive. I can't just grab some chips to snack on, or sting cheese, or anything but fruit/ vegetables. I have been spending like $6 a day on a smoothie from Nekter..
I agree healthy food should be cheaper, but I seriously doubt that will happen. I don't really know what we can do to fix the increasing rate of obesity. There are many great ideas, but how likely they are to happen.. I don't know.
As people have already stated, I believe that healthier and natural foods should decrease in price making healthy food readily available for all people.
We need to eliminate the cheap unhealthy foods from our supermarkets and replace them with more affordable nutritious foods and drinks. For example don't make a 2 liter bottle of soda cheaper than a small bottle of water.
A serious issue is the fact that fatty/junk food is a lot cheaper than healthy food and that needs to be changed. We should also influence our kids to be involved in sports and exercise at a young age so that when they're older it'll just be part of their routine rather than an every-once-in-a-while type of thing.
There's a lot we can do to prevent obesity in future generations. We need to get kids involved in athletics and keep them on a healthy diet. Sweets should only be eaten in moderation.
