U.S. high school seniors, whose school years have encompassed the sweeping education initiatives of two presidents, failed to demonstrate improvement in math or reading on a national exam. Only 38 percent of those tested in 2013 scored as proficient readers on the National Assessment of Educational Progress, known as the Nations Report Card, released today by the Education Department. Three-quarters failed to show math proficiency. The scores were little changed from 2009, when the test was last given.
Since we already have the program, "no child left behind", and since Obama recently invested 4.35 billion dollars into his Race to the Top program, what new measures should be made? Should more money be invested? If so, where should this money be invested into our schools?
I like that obama is supporting schools but we can't really change grades based on programs or money. It all really depends on the person and his attitude towards school and learning. Some like it, some don't.
I don't think we should put any money in now since it obviously has not been very affective, if they decide to put more money in, they should make sure they are using it in the most affective way
I think school , education, test scores, and grades are pushed way too much and it is stressing out all kids and making the ones that aren't at such a high level of education feel bad because they are behind. No more money should be put into tests and stuff, we are fine the way we are noe, tests do not show everything.
you cant change grades off of programs, your grades depend on YOU and how your brain works ...you cant judge an elephant on its ability to climb a tree
I think teachers should be held a little more responsible about how successful their students are academically but i also believe that if a child simply does not care about his education and does anything he can do to rebel than our teachers should be allowed to kick them out of their class or school. its hard to set new measures because it depends on the individual whether or not they will be successful academically.
No more money should be invested in these programs since they are obviously not effective. I agree with John and think that school is pressed onto students way too hard. My grade in math doesn't reflect my abilities as a person .
I think we need to make education more fun and appealing to kids because many kids are turned off from school because it can be very boring at times. Many of the times its the teachers who are very bland and dry in their lesson plans which does not get kids to listen. I think its important that we get more students interested in learning and make them want to learn, not feel like they are forced too.
I think students should be able to choose their own classes before college. School is very repetitive and many children have trouble staying on track especially for classes that dont appeal to them.
I honestly feel like the biggest problems with school are the alarming lack of good teachers. Here at El Dorado, we are very fortunate to have so many great teachers, but I know that many others schools don't have that advantage. If any of you guys have watched the documentary called "Waiting for Superman", it shows how its nearly impossible to fire a teacher after they've been in the system for a short amount of time, and this is a huge problem because it means that incompetent teachers are still in classrooms, not doing their job correctly and getting paid for it. I really do believe that good teachers will translate into better test scores. So let's start firing horrible teachers and then hike up pay for teachers, which will provide more of an incentive for a teaching career.
I don't think more money should be invested because a lack of funds is not the problem. The problem is the way children are being raised these days with parents putting no emphasis on education and a lack of good teachers that motivate students to try to achieve their very best.
i believe that school is the most important thing especially when our future so to speak is in the hands of failing students we need to put more effort into schooling.
I dont think morer money shoud be invested. i think they should work on the teachers since they are the ones that not only just teach us but provide guidance. Should find new ways to connecty with students and get them to excell. Also maybe we should look and see what other countries that are doing well in academics and try to open new ideas a similiar way.
I think students should be able to choose their own classes before college but these Schools are very repetitive and many children have trouble staying on track especially for classes that don't appeal to them.
I don't think that any more money should be invested into this. I think this also depends on the students themselves and their attitude toward school. But I do think that school is very important and that scores should increase.
I do not believe more money should be invested into our schools but rather our schools should just do their best to make sure children are receiving the proper education they need and make sure our teachers are doing their best to do so.
I dont think we should put more money into these programs cause its obviously not working but we should put more effort into helping the students that really need it instead of just letting it go.
