The Obama administration said the sharp increase follows steps it took over the past year to encourage alleged victims to come forward to report such abuse. The issue received heightened attention from the Obama administration and Congress after last year's report also showed a startling jump in reported sex abuse claims.claims. Tsongas added better reporting and other steps to address the issue "does not obviate the simple fact that these heinous crimes continue to occur at an alarming rate, to both men and women."
The government should be more strict and send out more police to moniter high crime areas. The government should arrest more bad people and implement the death penalty to make people feel safer.
i think there needs to be more severe punishments to people who are sexually abusing others in order to scare many of them and prevent them from wanting to commit those crimes.
It is clear that the sexual assault charges must be stricter if the already strict punishments aren't good enough. There should also be more emphasis or education which would lessen such assaults
The people who are accused of sexual abuse should not be receiving a mere slap on the wrist. They need strict punishments to discourage it. Also, they need outlets where it is easier for people to admit to being sexually abused, so that more of these crimes can be investigated.
The US government should make the offense of this crime more severe and there's not much more the they can do to make them feel more safe. They already have almost everything separate and even then it doesn't help much.
I think that the military needs to actually discharge members of the military who are charged and convicted of sexual assault in addition to their criminal punishment. In 2010, The Department of Defense processed reports of 3,198 new assaults but estimated the actual number of assaults to be closer to 19,000. However, these reports only resulted in convictions against 244 perpetrators. Why is this happening? because too often they perps run off and the victims are silenced and the reports are not investigated.
