The baseball players posed for a team photo of sorts -- but the signs they held had nothing to do with home runs or striking out. Two of them toted a Venezuelan flag with "SOS" scrawled across the top. One knelt in front with a sign that said "Pray for Venezuela." The Detroit Tigers teammates snapped the photo last week in a locker room in Lakeland, Florida, their spring training base. A group of New York Mets posed for a similar shot this week, holding Venezuelan flags as they stood beside a baseball diamond in Port St. Lucie, Florida. They may be rivals on the field, but the players from both teams.Weeks of massive street protests in Venezuela have left at least 13 people dead, more than 100 injured, and dozens detained after clashes between members of the opposition, backers of the government, law enforcement and armed groups.
Do you think celebrities taking these pictures will help bring attention to this issue? Will it help solve the problem?
I know that many celebrities have been doing things like this. I follow Juan Pablo from The Bachelor, and this is how I first found out about the situation due to his several posts a day about Venezuela. Therefore, I believe that this will lead to more exposure for the uprisings in Venezuela if anything. In our culture, celebrities do have a major impact on the public and how they make decisions, and I think that if more celebrities made decisions to call attention to serious matters like this, we would start to see a change in the education of many people.
I think celebrities taking the pictures will bring attention to the issue because they are very popular, and if they see the issue and act on it, people will be influenced and act on the issues as well. It could help the issue, and it might not, but it is worth a shot.
I think this is absolutely amazing. These celebrities taking pictures will definitely bring attention to the situation. I don't think this will solve it but it will lead toward the right path.
I think that it will definately bring attention to the issue in the public's eyes but I feel the gov't has its hands full with eveything in the Ukraine.
I think that celebrities posting pictures and talking about it will defenitely bring attention to the issue and more and more poeple will start to notice. I do not think this will necessarily solve the problem, however, I think it will help and it will lead it in the right direction.
