Read Across America Day (Belated)

Sunday was Read Across America Day in honor of Dr. Seuss's birthday.

What was your favorite book as a kid? What's your favorite book now?  What are you reading for fun right now?

My favorite book of my youth is incredibly difficult for me to settle upon because there were so many I loved - Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No-Good Very Bad Day, Where the Wild Things Are, all the Little House and Anne of Green Gables books, Encyclopedia Brown, Phantom Tollbooth, Goodnight Moon, Berenstain Bears.... it's a long list :)

Without question, my favorite book now is To Kill a Mockingbird - two of my three kids have TKAM-inspired middle names and I think it is without question the most masterful narrative ever crafted- an extraordinary story extraordinarily well-told.

Right now I'm reading Love & War: Twenty Years, Three Presidents, Two Daughters, and One Louisiana Home by Mary Matalin and James Carville (they're both bigtime political operatives- she's a Republican and he's a Democrat.  I loved their first book, which came out about twenty years ago, and am thoroughly enjoying this follow-up too).  I recently finished reading Jen Lancaster's new novel- she's my fave modern author and I devour everything she writes- and rereading Mindy Kaling's Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?, and I'm waiting for John Green to dazzle us with something new!  I'm reading Son of Neptune with the MiniCavs at bedtime, too (I've read and loved most of Rick Riordan's stuff and my kiddos are just discovering it).

Yay for reading!!! :)

Cat in the Hat was probably my favorite of Dr.S's works but I did really enjoy the Goosebumps series which were absolutely thrilling. I haven't ready anything new lately but I'd have to say that I really enjoyed Brave New World, Angela's Ashes, and Like Water for Chocolate.

My favorite books as a kid were The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Magic Tree House, A Series of Unfortunate Events, and my favorite books currently are probably The Hunger Games. I am not reading anything currently but we will be reading The Crucible in Language Arts soon.

Does anyone remember that one story, i think its called "The Giving Tree"? I loved that story. Like in the end the little boy, now really old, just wanted a place to sit and rest. That was an awesome story. Wasn't that the book that forest Gump said towards the end of the film to his son, " My favorite Book!". If so then that's awesome.

As a child, my favorite book was "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie", which soon developed into a 4 year long obsession with the Nancy Drew series. I own every book in the classic series. Now, I am currently reading "Nurse" by Peggy Anderson. I'm only about halfway in, but so far it is a compilation of real life stories told by a nurse, and how she dealt with traumatic situations and tough patients. To me, it's really interesting because I want to become a nurse. To my mom however, it is disgusting because a lot of Anderson's stories deeply describe the injuries of her past patients and my mom is very squeamish!
My all time favorite book is "The Fault in Our Stars" by John Green. I absolutely adore his work and also cannot wait for him to wow us with another novel! I'm also excited for TFIOS movie, coming out in a few months I believe, but I am a bit nervous. Movies never quite compare to the books they were based off of, and I really do hope that the film does the book justice.

My favorite book as a kid was the one with the fish and its cool colored scales and how it felt bad for other fish and gave them its own scales. Now my favorite book is princess bride and i still am currently reading it. Also i am currently reading Forrest Gump and i love both books.
