GROUP 6 -"Islamic Militants Blamed for Deadly College Attack in Nigeria"

In Lagos, Nigeria, Islamic militants from the group Boko Haram rounded up female students at the Federal Government College Buni Yadi, and killed 29 16-18 year old boys, due to their anti-secular Islamist beliefs. They then told the women to read the Quran and go home and find husbands. This hasn't been the first attack on a school, as in September a nearby school was attacked and 40 were killed. There have also been over 200 deaths in the last month in nearby villages and towns. Much of the controversy about this issue is due to the fact that the military garrison that was assigned to protect the school was absent. This has garnered much resentment for President Goodluck Jonathan.

Why do you think the female students were spared, while the male students were killed and even burned alive?

What could a possible solution for these killings be?

Do you think that Islam is to blame for the radical ideas of this terrorist group?

I think that the only solution would be the government fixing itself and a re-education of the masses. However, I don't feel Islam is to blame for the ideas but rather extremists.

The females were spared because the terrorists probably thought that the males would do more harm. A solution to these killings would be for the terrorists to be killed. I think the terrorists are to blame, not all of Islam because its the terrorists killing people and not just all Islamic people, yet I do not know enough about Islam to make a firm response.

You cannot make a judgement on a certain religious group based on its extremist groups. This terrorist group is obviously not the "norm" of Muslim people. I believe that a lot of misconceptions and stereotypes are based off of extremist groups and terrorist groups, which is very unfair to the true practicioners of the religion, as this is not a fair judgement.

I think the female students were spared because they weren't seen as much of a threat and they will now be the messengers of the attack. I think the solution should be the Nigerian government send troops down to the group and eliminate them. I also don't believe that Islam is to blame, i think that they are using Islam as an excuse or a blanket to carry out their acts of terror and hate.

I think the females were spared because they pobably are not causing as much harm to the society and school as the females are.

I think they spared he woman because they feel like they are not as much as a threat to them as the men are. Killing the male student would make it clear to all males thinking about fighting back to think twice before crossing them. No religious group should be at blame. There will always be radicals who misinterpret anything and everything,no matter what.
