President Enrique Pena Nieto is calling for an end to obesity. He says every Mexican should excercise for about an hour a day. In Mexico, 7 out of 10 adults are overweigyt or obese and 1/3 of children fall under the same category. There will also be taxes on sugary snacks like chocolate, soda, etc. Mexico has more overweight citizens than the U.S. and is one of the most obese countries in the world. Do you think the president is doing the right thing? Are there any other ideas that you have that you think would help?
I think these policies are a step in the right direction. Much like the large tax on cigarettes, the taxes on unheathly snacks will deter people from buying them.
This may be unpopular but it is needed to help the country become healthier.
I agree with Zoe, some people may not like the new laws or the new tax but at least the president is trying to do something to help with obesity in his country.
These policies seem good for everyone, and although there will be more taxes, the funds from these taxes will be used to increase water access in schools and expand health programs so it will benefit the country healthwise in the future.
The president is doing a good thing for his citizens although they don't like it. I hope that the new tax on sugary foods and the exercise requirement will help the people become more healthy. I wonder if President Obama will do something among those lines, or maybe the governor of California should take it in his hands to make Americans more healthy.
i think the president is taking a good step towards getting rid of obesity however exercise only helps so much you also need a healthy diet to pair with your exercise
