Two convicted killers in Orange County Florida were released on falsified documents. The documents had the forged signature of a judge allowing them to be released. Both inmates left the jail 11 days apart. Police said the gang produced the documents in prison and were able to complete the documents with the help of outside members. Gerald Bailey, Florida Department of Claw Enforcement Commissioner, told lawmakers,"We have confidential sources within the inmates that are telling us the documents were generated within the walls of the prison, sent out and then sent to the clerks office by other people," he said. Both men have been captured and placed back in jail. There is a new policy requiring that any inmate's early release be confirmed by the sentencing judge, an additional security step.
What do you think about this story and will the prison system ever be "really secure"?
This is ridiculous...it really should not be thaaat easy to forge a letter and free prisoners...and like Connor said, if only they applied their skills and made something like a lunch line/inmate monitor...
Wow, I am surprised at how easy it was for them to get out of prison. Does it really only take paperwork with the signature of judge? That seems like craziness. The new step they're taking of actually contacting the judge seems like common sense....
It looks like the prison system and guards needs to be reevaluated and strengthened because these inmated made a mockery of it.
wow, how were they able to forge the letters? the extra security step would be a good idea but eventually prisoners will find another way to escape prison
I read about this story last week, and I was shocked to hear how easy it was for them to escape. I don't think we will ever have a perfect system, but they could definitely improve some aspects.
If the inmates had help from the inside, then somehow, the prisoners might find another way around new measures. As long as there are laws, there will be someone to break them.
Clearly, this prison wasn't being well run if the prisoners were given supplies to even forge this note. Also the gullibility of the guards and staff just shows that the prison system desperately needs to be revamped.
