YOUR FIRST ASSIGNMENT- YAY!!!

Sunshine Cavalluzzi: Mama of the three smartest, funniest, and all-around most fabulous (and fabulously good-looking!!) children on the planet: Lucy (who's eight and a half and a Brookhaven third grader), JD (who is six and a half and is in first grade at Brookhaven), and Micah (who just turned four and is a Wagner preschooler) and an EDHS grad from the famous class of '93. I'm proud to have coached the ROCK STAR, Orange County CHAMPION EDHS Mock Trial team for the twelve years and to be coming back this year after a two-year hiatus to do so again! I'm a UCSD grad (Go Fightin' Tritons!) and I spent a semester in London (the best thing I did in college - you ALL should study abroad!!). 

I really really believe in Gandhi's idea that "You must be the change you wish to see in the world" and Margaret Mead's reminder to "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it is the only thing that ever has." 

and I LOVE: my family, my amazing circle of friends and keeping up with them on Facebook, EDHS, Mock Trial, yummy food, traveling, swimming, THE BEACH, being a soccer mom, good quotes, good books...especially Harry Potter and To Kill A Mockingbird (Lucy's middle name is Harper after Harper Lee and Micah's middle name is Atticus), funny and fabulous TV (The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, Jeopardy!, The West Wing, The Office, Parks & Recreation, Top Chef, The Newsroom....), the awesometastic Disney cruise I took with my family this summer, and active, energetic, thoughtful, polite, and ongoing discussions about INTERESTING THINGS like CONTEMPORARY WORLD AFFAIRS!! :)

In terms of my favorite kinds of news, I (obviously) love politics and political news, college basketball [(GO DUKE!) - though I watch a lot less than I used to before I had kids; less, alas, with the arrival of each subsequent MiniCav :)], stories about people who completely defy the conventions with which they were raised, and the huge impact of small actions...the ways people decide to create change locally and globally. 

I really love teaching this class and am VERY MUCH looking forward to this semester and your FANTASTIC contributions!!!

My name is Tristin Kennedy. I enjoy bringing up the facts about things that not too many people look at in a topic. I enjoy talking about controvertial topics. I enjoy playing sports like waterpolo, swimming, rugby, and martial arts. I solve puzzles quite a bit and can solve a rubik's cube in around 40 seconds. I hate it when people tell people in Brittain to learn proper English.

Hi, my name is Jennifer Leonard and I am a senior this year. I love dark chocolate and going to concerts. I love watching random Netflix shows with my friends because why not? I obtain a majority of my news from local news stations and Fox. I have no idea where I want to go to college or what I want to be when I grow up. (YAY for the future.)

My name is Olga Podlisetskaya and I'm from Ukraine (which is in Europe). I have 5 siblings: Bogdan(14; he's a freshman at Valencia High School); Stephan(9; he just started 4th grade); Mary(7;she just started 2nd grade); David(4; he's finishing his 2nd semester at a preschool); Matthew(almost 2; he's a very adorable little brother who's still at home with mom). My siblings and I usually get along. Right now we're all adjusting to the new school year schedule. I love reading, baking, chocolate, cats, and the rides at water parks. When I'm older, I hope to travel across the United States and to other countries. I go to church at Calvary Chapel and this summer I had gone with the junior high and high school group to camp. I get my news either from Yahoo or from the tv. I like to watch abc7 or ktla5. I'm very excited about senior year and I will work hard to finish strong!!!!

Hi im Shaun Thornton. I usually get my news either from facebook, youtube or the national news channels. I listen to rock and roll, bands such as the doors, led zeppelin, pink floyd etc.. My friends are prety awesome, we listen to the same kind of music and enjoy alot of the same things. We usually do alot of random things and end up blowing stuff up.. But everything works out in the end.

Hey I'm Russel Slate. I don't sit down to look up news much. Usually, I see what people share on Facebook, make mental opinions, and ponder whether it would affect me at all. I play French horn and Mellophone in the band, guitar in Jazz 1, and I sing and play rhythm guitar in my band The Smooth Accolades (though I write all the music and co-write lyrics). We're recording an album this Sunday, and we'll even be playing here during lunch a few times throughout the year.
