Jiroemon Kimura, the oldest living man, celebrated his 116th birthday this past Friday. Born in 1897, Kimura is the last man alive born in the 19th century.
These golden agers are part of an elite group of seniors who have made it to their 110th birthday and beyond. Dr. Tom Perls, the director of the New England Centenarian Study at Boston University Medical Center, estimates there are approximately 200-300 of these "supercentenarians" in the world. Would you ever want to live to be this old? If so what would you do in your elderly yea
I've heard some interesting stuff about communities where people live significantly longer (they're called Blue Zones). I think it's so interesting that your way of life (things like your diet, religious activity, volunteer activity, how close you are with family and friends, etc.) can so profoundly affect how long you live. If I lived to be that old, I just hope I would still have all my mental capacity and be healthy.

Top Thirteen "Cities in U.S. with the Most Old People" (six are in Florida):
Lego, Cav (the Lego brand name was derived from the Danish expression "leg godt" - play well - and lego also translates in Latin as "I study" or "I put together"...really, one of the world's most perfect words!)
If such an immense age becomes the norm, I really, really hope we alter healthcare to suit the oncoming needs. We already have people on Social Security years longer than the program intended; to make it decades...
What if all of your friends die? And how active can you be at 116 years old? If being that old would be as funa s being young I would be all for it but when I imagine being in my 110's I think of being on medication and sitting in a chair by myself watching lame tv shows....Is that just me?
I would run out of fun things to do if I lived to be that old. Your body can't keep up. I wouldn't be able to drive (slower reaction times), which is one of my favorite things to do; I wouldn't be able to keep up with my grandchildren; I wouldn't be able to hike. I think you just kind of eat & sleep. I wouldn't want that type of life.
I once heard of a guy who was born before Lincoln was assassinated, an era with out any cars are modern technology, and lived until the Apollo 11 landed on the moon, an era with modern technology, cars and computers. That span of a life is the most interesting evolution in normality i have ever heard. I can only imagine what it was like for him.
