This is herecy and blasphemy! Why would they cast Jesus as a gay person? That is the dumbest thing i have ever heard. That must not really be a church or something, because any self respecting church i know of would never do that.

I read about it and they are a church and thats really bad.
I agree, insulting to me. Who would want to mess with Christ? i feel sorry for anyone who participates, they probably don't understand exactly who they are making fun of because if they did, they wouldn't have even have wanted to mock him in any way. What makes this different from when they mocked and spit on him on his way to be crucified?

I am all for gays, I have nothing against them&do not like how they are always discriminated against, but this is just wrong. Jesus was never gay, so why should he be depicted that way? Nobody can say, "well, if Jesus were a gay man..." no, because Jesus was not&is not a gay man. Why turn him into something that he is not? What is this proving?

i dont think this is a bad idea it has a very good message.. i wanna watch this play!:) its not accusig jesus of being gay its just sending a message of love. and hey u never know.. maybe jesus really was gay, nothing wrong with that haha
They aren't saying Jesus was gay..we have normal people "play" Jesus when obviously NOBODY but him is holy enough. It should be a "blasphemy" for anybody to then.
Jesus was NOT gay, he is not for homosexuallity, yes it is showing love, but in a false way. They are saying he is gay, thats the point to say he was a gay man. I dont understand why peopel think this is okay. that is sharing false information.

Just one more way for same sex sympathizers to integrate tolerance of the homosexual mentality into aspects of society where the idea rightfully does not belong. In other words, the church has no right to play the role of activists for political causes, especially gay rights. Their prime focus is the written word of God, the preaching of the gospel, and the administering of the sacraments to their congregation. Through the act of hosting same sex marriages and same sex rallies, in their effort to supposedly "bridge the gap", the church of Foothills has indefinitely made a compromise that deserves condemnation from the highest power. In violation of the written word, the highest possible form of credo pertaining to the church, they have branded themselves as a force that is too illigitimate to be a true church.

a gay man PLAYED his part. acting..... its not obvious actually. What do you think they made a Jesus wearing high heels parading around in some dress? nooo, it was just some guy ACTING. The man might have been gay, doesn't mean they were saying Jesus is.
Yes they are, yeah sure in a different time period, different guy. But we can all understand the hidden point.

They are not saying that Jesus is gay, but in this play he is meant to be gay. Of course it is not the actual Jesus in the play, but in the play he is supossed to be gay and there is a message behind it.

Okay the guy was gay, but the producers understood how "contreversial" it would be. If it did not matter if the man was gay or not then why did they present it? By the producers underlighting, highlighting, and bolding his homosexuality and then tagged it onto Christ's name is also disrespectful to me.

How can you even say you know him personally. I really am just curious i don't understand that. DO you know his favorite color, food, animal, all that stuff like you do with close friends or people you know? What makes you "know" him besides prayer which is even more confusing because its a one way conversation. Curious...
Of course we know his outlook, ho do we know him at all? The Bible. Now that may be difficult to understand if you don't believe in it, but his outlook is wrtitten plainly in that book.

Yea, its like me sayingg I know you personally just because I read a book that has things you said and did. That does not mean I know you personally. it means I know SOME things you did in life and SOME things you said, but I do not know you personally. Yes, church is a place to get to know Jesus and learn about him, but I don't think anyone knows him personoally. The people who do know him personally are all dead now.

yea, you may know some stuff that was written about him but personally? I think thats poor diction.

i dont think the bible is a very reliable source to know what jesus was really like, thers no "book of jesus" in ther. its just his friends writing down what they remember about him, and the new testament was written years after jesus died, how do u know the disciples remember everything clearly?

Some historical events have been proven, but not God or that everything in the bible is true. Umm..wasn't most of the bible written not by his disciples but long after he was dead?

yea i agree with both of you, very good way to put it :)
They are raising the question: "why not?" Although its not essentially the same thing, the statement that "its possible that he was gay." or "Why cant he be gay?" is therefore alluding to belief that theres a chance that he was. They are purposely depicting him as a gay man to be controversial and throw the question out to people:
"And he's (James Brandon) is curious to see the reaction in a conservative county that voted against same-sex marriage."
"This is just another opportunity to introduce who we are as a Christian church," Carr said. "If it takes something controversial to do that, we're willing to do it to get the attention so then we can talk to people."
"You're able to not only share something through your art, but you're also telling a story and sharing through activism. " - James Brandon
One thing makes this wrong is that they are mixing theology with purely political and irrelevant pop cultural issues, which is not in the confines of the church to do. ("The show touches on religion, the political system and civil rights,...")
Also, they contradict themselves in two ways: 1. They claim ""We're not at all saying this is what we think Jesus was, or this is what we believe." yet they portray Jesus as an openly gay man on purpose and raise the question "Why not?"
2. Even more importantly, they contradict themselves as a christian church, claiming "This is just another opportunity to introduce who we are as a Christian church," but promoting something that is outright contradictory with the Bible.
