A new movie, No Impact Man, is coming out soon. It documents the experiences of a man, and by extension his family (a wife and a young daughter), who lived an entire year without a "carbon footprint" - buying nothing but food, using no electricity, producing no trash, and traveling only by foot or bike. You can read more about it at www.noimpactman.com - the film is actually based on the book he wrote after the fact and the blog he created during the year.
Would you be willing to have a "no impact week"? Month? Year? To save the planet? To make yourself healthier? Only for a book/movie deal?
Is there any "limited impact" stuff that you already do? Recycling? Taking stairs instead of elevators? How green are you?
Is it important for all people to at least minimize their impact? Or is global warming concern/environmentalism just a popular fad that will soon be replaced by something else?

I am extremely impressed by this family's ability to not leave a carbon footprint for an entire year. I cannot imagine what types of amenities/luxuries of daily life I would have to give up in order to live that way. I would like to say I'd be willing to have a "no impact week" but it would probably end up being turning into a "no impact day" because I dont think I could give up all the necessary amenities, especially driving, television, and the computer. However, I do reduce my impact through recycling, shorter showers, turning off water between brushing teeth/washing&drying dishes, taking stairs, and frequently carpooling. I definately think that it's important (easier said than done) for people to minimize their impact, but I think people prioritize other things before being environmentally conscious....and who can blame anyone? I think the nation as a whole is improving due to the whole "green fad", and I hope that it doesn't fade away as just a fad.
I myself recycle cans, bottles, plastics etc. What this guy and his family are doing is really cool but i think if everyone did this for a whole year or month even that it would be a waste of all our technological advances. If everyone could do this for a day that would be really cool and could save alot of energy an resources for our planet. But obviously it's not practical. Some people can't walk or ride bikes to work becuase their work is about an hour commute. But everyone should try and do something to help.
