Nearly 1.5 million pakistanis have registered as displaced since May 2
THe U.N believes the refugees crisis could be a bigger threat than the fight with the Taliban
The United States is sending $110 million in aid to Pakistan
Hundred of refugees had blocked a main road, protesting living conditions for the 1.5 million refugees displaced.
This is tragic. But what I can't understand is why are there so many refugees? Why did they have to leave their home? Can someone help me understand this issue?

Well they had to leave their homes because of the situation with the Taliban rule. They can't live in peace, so they leave. It's either leave or get killed or live in EXTREME oppression beyond anything we could understand here in the US.
Why are there so many refugees? A couple months ago the government agreed to let the Taliban control a small area if they would lay down their arms. Needless to say, they didn't and tried to seize more land. The government responded by firing back at the Taliban, and now they are trying to eradicate them. Civilians are trying to flee the war going on. Its basically stay in a war zone, become potentially a human hostage by the Taliban, or flee for your life. it sucks, but thats what happening.
Ahh! Thanks you guys for letting me know what's going on. So here's some other discussion questions:
What do you think the pakistani government should do to stop the Taliban? Do you think there is no hope and the Taliban will just take over? What should be done to help the refugees?

unfortunately, there isn't much the Pakistani government can do. and like Jason said, we're already hated enough for making things worse with the Taliban. there is some hope, there always is in my opinion. the Pakistani people are doing what they can to help these refugees. recently, lots of kids have fled Swat Valley where the main fighting has been going on in the past month. wherever they end up, people take them in either in their homes or into the few shelters that have been arranged for all these kids to come to for food and a place to sleep. it's going to take time, but it CAN get better, and hopefully will.
