A singer-songwriter from Peshawar, Pakistan was allegedly murdered by her family, according to the Times Online. Ayman Udas' death, which her husband of only ten days is claiming was at the hand of her brothers, is being taken as a political statement in this conservative region that has seen a steady increase of Islamic fundamentalism.
Udas sang in her native tongue (Pashto), winning acclaim and appearances on the state-run television channel PTV. You can watch one of her music videos here. Her family disapproved of her career and of her TV appearances, believing them both to be sinful.
It is not uncommon for popular artists (or comedians) in the region to receive death threats, and many have fled to more accepting, safer areas of the country or of the world.
Udas was in her early 30's, and married with two children. It is believed that her brothers broke into her apartment when she was there alone and shot her three times in the chest.
I think it looks suspicious that she was only married to her husband for 10 days? what do you guys think?
meeeeeeee too! it seems a little too suspicous. why would her brothers want to kill her? they arent going to get anything out of it she just got married!
She could have had a huge life insurance plan that would give all her money to her husband and kids if she died and that could have motivated her new husband and her brothers to kill her. If her family disapproved of her singing career because it was "sinful," what do they consider murder to be??
do you know currently that the Swat Valley where Peshawar is located is undergoing a massive war between the Taliban and Government troops. Its also located right where militants are destroying Nato supplies. It's probably not suspicious at all, those Taliban are trying to establish Islamic law there and obviously are making an example of a women not doing a fundamentalist Islamic job. Her brothers are probably militants and are probably responsible for her death...
