The worlds one and only indoor beach can be found in Japans Ocean Dome about 1,200 miles south of Tokyo in Miyazaki, on Japans southernmost Kyushu Island.
Here, the water is always blue and salt-free, waves are perfectly timed, sharks are elsewhere, and its never too hot, or cold, to take a dip.
Japans Ocean Dome even has its own marble sand and a volcano that spits fake flames every hour, on the hour. Shores are sanitized; permitting surfers to drip-dry in the perfect climate, which never varies, day and night, every day of the year.
The Ocean Dome also boasts the worlds largest retractable roof.
The beach sits inside a vast dome that measures 300 x 100 meters (984 feet x 328 feet). The heated ocean sends 13,500 tons of salt-free water sweeping across 600 tons of polished marble chips that comprise a long shoreline.
The worlds largest artificial sea washes over the worlds biggest indoor beach, fringed with artificial fish and fauna.
Bogus parrots ruffle their feathers and squawk at tourists from the rainforest that has no rain.
There are no bugs here or sun burns either.
But like most things in life, entrance into this paradise costs. Visitors pay with payment tokens that are computer-coded plastic tags. Admission runs about US $50 for adults, with rides running $5-10 more. Add $10 more for two hours with a boogie board, or $5 for two hours of inner tube rental.
Visitors are offered many diversions in the form of shopping centers tennis courts and golf courses. On the other side of the beach is the plastic rainforest, where guests can travel among holographic sea pirates, demons and dinosaurs.
WHo could ask for anything more? SHould the us get one, or just a waste of time?
i think it would be a great idea for the US to build one of this in areas that arent near the coast. lots of people that live in these areas would definately pay big bucks for this experience.
I agree with Lauren! We shouldn't spend money on something we already have.. the real deal. I mean we do live in Cali :]

wow I don't think I would pay 50 dollars just to go to an indoor beach when right outside is a real beach that is probably free, I think I can handle the salt and sun.
Hahahaha but that indoor beach is right next to the REAL beach !! I would rather save my 50 dollars thank you very much :]

haha wow that's cool. i think it's better to experience the real thing though. definitely. and yeah it would be cool if we had one in the US, and we probably will because we tend to LOVE being on top of the world, in everything. so eventually, we'll get one. i just hope they don't try to do it anytime soon, with our recession and everything right now =/
HAHAHA, i guess people find it more fun in the indoor beach rather than the outdoor beach. but seriously, the indoor beach is pretty awesome. i'd like to visit there someday. ;]
A real beach is awesome but a "fake" beach has it's benefits such as no sunburn, perfect weather, and perfect waves. $50 is a little pricey though but reasonable considering how much it costs for them to maintain the "beach".

i agree...fifty bucks is a little pricey that used to be how much you could pay for disneyland. Why not just to to a real beach for maybe 2 dollars in quarters for the day. I think its a cool luxury to have but not necessary..
Wow! I've never seen anything like it. It's amazing how big and realistic japan made the indoor beach. I honestly think we should build an indoor beach in Califonia. :P
