Australian woman killed man over her barking dog

SYDNEY A woman was convicted Wednesday of fatally stabbing a neighbor who complained about her barking dog in Australia's biggest city.

A New South Wales Supreme Court jury found Katrina Megan Whitmore, 26, guilty of murder after two days of deliberations.

Joseph Durrant, 47, of Sydney, was on his way home from Australia Day celebrations Jan. 27, 2007, when he argued with Whitmore in her yard about her dog. Prosecutors said Whitmore threatened Durrant then attacked him with a knife.

"She does say that she told people not to speak to her dog like that," prosecutor Chris Maxwell told the court.

A witness, Adam Duncan, told the court he was at a party next door when he saw Whitmore run down her driveway brandishing a knife, adding that he was "pretty sure Katrina stabbed him in the neck."

Whitmore has acknowledged there was a struggle but denied wielding a knife.

She will be sentenced May 29.

Co-accused Steven Spiro Sotiropoulos, who was involved in the fight and charged alongside Whitmore, was found not guilty of murder.

THis is pretty crazy. My friend just told me that when his aunt dies, she is leaving all of her money/ belonings to her chipoodle or whatever theyre called. I think people love their dogs too much.

ITS NOT LIKE THE DOG UNDERSTOOD WHAT THE MAN WAS SAYING ANYWAYS!

i understand why she did what she did. when you are lonely and you have been rejected by the world, where else are you turn but to the one living being that will never turn its back on you. she should not have killed the man but i can understand why she did

To be honest, my dog is more important to me than most of the people I know. And I'm extremely protective and I get really offended if someone talks about her badly, especially because she's deaf.
Granted she couldn't understand even if she COULD hear, that's not the point.

The point is that our animals, especially dogs, are family.
So that man saying something terrible about the dog is like saying something horrible about your sister or brother who can't defend themselves.
I understand why she got so so so angry about it, but she really took it too far to KILL someone over it.

really? killing a person just because they said something mean to your dog...if everyone killed people because they said something mean to someone, we would be in big trouble.

Thats sad and what makes it even sadder is that the dog wasn't even in danger. Its not like he was going to kill the dog or something...not that he should be murdered for that either, but really? all he did was tell her dog to be quiet. She needs friends...that are human. She spend too much time with her dog.
