Remains of boy, five, found in Australian crocodile

The remains of a missing five-year-old boy have been found in the stomach of acrocodile caught after floods ravaged northern Australia

An examination carried out on a crocodile trapped near the spot had revealed the remains of the boy in its stomach.

Hundreds of people were forced to flee and others were left stranded in their homes by the rising water.

What a gruesome way to die. What are some safety manuevers that will help defend a crocodile's vicious attacks?

Well, according to www.outdoorcentral.com, if you live near where crocodiles roam, its a good idea to not throw fish scrapes into the water.  Also, if you have a dog, make sure you keep it away from the water's edge and that it is on a leash.  its also a good idea to not harass them.  but the best advice: stay away from the water's edge!!

Probably stay away from the shore, dont swim in a lake where they inhabit , and probably dont let your kids alone near one..... How can a five year old defend from this anyways?

I think that the local city where there are "crocodile zones" , needs to put up signs warning local residents of the danger. I dont think any nets or safety lines are needed, people just need to be warned of the potential danger, and should stay away from those zones.

the best way to avoid this from happening is stay away if you know that you live near crocodiles. It's also especially important to keep small children away from crocodiles because they are more at risk than older kids and adults.

well first off the parents of this child should of been more aware of where there child is wandering off to. Also there should be signs saying that there is crocodiles near so people will be more aware..

This is so sad. I have no idea how I would try to protect myself from a crocodile. I do feel though that instead of people learning how to defend themselves, I think there should be better regulation of these kids of animals in areas like this. I know it would be hard to maintain wild animals but I think that if they are seen anywhere that was "out of place" they sould be taken back to the wild?
I just realized I am kind of rambling on. Sorry if what I just said doesnt make sense :)

i agree with sandy, i think there should be a warning sign posted up. with that the people living there will probably be precautious and think ahead.

a person should know whether its dangerous or safe.

oh & its so sad how the little boy died. :(

Some warning signs would be usefufl for people who are unaware of the area in which theyr'e wandering.
-If it came down to being attacked by a crocodile i would most likely either stay as far away from the animal as possible, then continue to run as fast away from the area until i'm completley out of breath to try and find some help, or i would make like a tree and remain as still as possible. :) It would make my day not to be the the crocs lunch menu! :p

I think a sign should be posted and anyone who moves into the area should be aware of the danger. In this case, the parents should have been paying more attention to the 5 year-old. He shouldn't have been anywhere near the water, even if there weren't crocodiles, because he could fall in and drown.

Its easy... keep a better eye on your kid.. and scare them to death with the facts, so they dont go wandering off to be eatin by crocs..

I agree with Sandy i think that they should put up warning signs. I also think that parents should be more carefull in where their kids are playing. This is kind of a sad story nthough especially if you are the parent and have to wake up one morning to find out their child was eaten by a crocodile.

Well if there is water everywhere (due to the flooding) it makes it difficult to simply avoid deep water, although that would be the most practical solution. I guess another solution would be to keep an eye on your children. I can imagine my 5yr old brother going near deep water to poke a log that turns out to something else. There are leashes for small children if that is the last option (I saw a mother using it at Knotts haha), better safe than sorry.

This is really sad. They should have more signs around the 'crocodile zones' as everyone else said. Those things will eat whatever comes their way. And to what Daisy said..everyone has to watch out for crocodiles. Not just little kids. They will eat big people too!
