On Saturday, December 6th 2008, the cash-strapped nation of Zimbabwe revealed plans to circulate a $200 million dollar bill. This is days after the circulation of the $100 million dollar bill. This decision by Finance Minister Samuel Mumbengegui came just after the price of a loaf of bread went from $2 million to $35 million. The once prosperous nation is now facing a hyperinflation rate of 231 million percent. There have been allegations of illegal foreign currency trading and the government has fired four top executives at major banks. This inflation just adds to their need for humanitarian help and Cholera outbreak.
How can their inflation be helped? What can other nations do to aid? should they step in? Does the nation need humanitarian help? What are your thoughts?
The $100 million dollar bill didn't do any good so I don't see what the $200 million dollar bill is going to do. Their hyperinflation seems completely hopeless. They need to start over and create a new economic system with new currency.
