Debbie Purdy, a 45 year old British woman, suffers from multiple sclerosis. She took a challenge to the High Court asking whether or not her husband will be prosecuted for assisting her with suicide when her condition begins to fail. The court refused to change its position on the 1961 Suicide Act, which says that anyone who assists in suicide will face up to 14 years in prison. Debbie is disappointed and shocked, for she believes it his her choice and doesn't want her husband to face criminal proceedings. She plans to appeal once again.
Do you think that terminally ill people have the right to euthanasia? Or is that a crime which should be punished?
i think they should go through phsycological tests and meetings before the decision is made. if you are suffering or in pain you have every right to choose what you feel is right to do.
he shouldnt be punished cause they were warned ahead of time? jeeze i dont know this is hard to figure out because if its against the law then it should be as plain as that but i just pity the woman
i think it is 100% her choice && there should be no punishment. if she is really that ill doesn't want to live, the government should respect her decision.
i think it should be allowed. nowadays it's allowed only somewhere up north on the map - netherlands or some country nearby (almost everything is allowed in netherlands, i wanna go there) ...and as far as i know, nobody was complaining. certainly not the people who chose it. I don't really see the point in saying that it's a crime, however, i've heard people say that terminally ill people might recover someday, but hey, if THEY don't want to suffer and wait and hope to recover (what if not?) they should go ahead...with euthanasia. I don't know whether money and care for the ill person is a big issue in the US, but in some other countries it definetely is.
I don't think she should involve her husband. What an odd thing to ask for from your husband. If she wants to end her life, that is only up to her. I wouldn't.
Life, liberty, and the purisuit of happiness...3 things that we garunteeed to ourself by the constition. So shouldn't we have the right to end our life, if we want?
