A teenage girl was locked up on theft charges in a Amazon jail for weeks with 20 men, who she claims would only let her eat, in exchange for sex. This has set off a national scandal over the treatment of women by Brazil's justice system.
What do you think should be done about this? How should they treat the women in their jails?
Women should be put in seperate cells if there isn't a seperate prison for women. I think the warden needs to be punished for this, what do you expect when you put a teenage girl in a jail cell with male criminals?
i think they should've had a separate place for female, especially teenage, prisoners. that's just wrong that she had to basically prostitute herself when she was suppose to be under government care. i think she should be able to sue her government for alot of money and be released from the prison. what she did was wrong but what the governement allowed was worse.

seperate cells for women is absolutely necessary. I don't understand though, is she the first female prisoner in the amazon jail? do seperate cells not exist here?
yeah i also believe there needs to be seperation within prisons to prevent anything such occurances from happening. I agree with robert that the warden should be punished, possibly lock him in with 20 large male criminals, see how he likes it!
whaaat? thats crazy i mean i dont really think it has anything to do with brazil, i mean if you put some teenage girl in a cell with 20 guys here, and the guards or wardens didnt care OF COURSE stuff like that would go down. but i mean i think its the lack of funds perhaps, that the amazon jail doesn't have a seperate cells for women. and maybe they haven't bothered making one because not that many women are put behind bars there? but i agree with erin the girl should be compensated for what happened to her.
this is really horrible and degrading. women should always be seperate from men when it comes to jailing. there are some really crazy people out there willing to put people through really horrible things when they are in drastic situations. and i think that it's only fair to the woman to keep from being physically and emotionally abused.
how would that happen, aren't there jailkeepers suppose to be going around? and why didn't she tell on them? when there was some kind of walk or something else? I wonder why she is telling all this to public now, cause there isn't going to be added punishment for those men, you know, it's jail. what the authority can do now is just separate people later. that's it.
and yeah, i read some comment here, it is ridiculous to say that she should go and sue the government for this, so and so, that she should be compensated... it happened in Amazon, (unfortinately there is no link to the primary source of the article) and the system outside the european unions and united states is very much different. the government doesn't care, the citizens know that - voila - no resonance.
thats really sad, they should separate her from the men, not just her but any women should be separated from men,of course all they would want is sex, anyone could guess that! no women should have to be in that position, jail is good enough punishment.
