study shows that students are less likely to graduate than there parents were. More than half the states have graduation targets that don't make schools get better. One in four kids is dropping out of school. High schools are required to meet graduation targets every year as part of the 2002 federal No Child Left Behind law.
do you think its the schools problem? parents problem to force them to graduate? or should the government step in?
I don't think schools should live up to this law. I believe that the government should perhaps step in to PREVENT this, not PUNISH for the schools not living up to No Child Left Behind's needed numbers of graduating highschoolers..

mmm well my fmaily always taught me that everything starts from the home i think it is the parents responsibility to push and motivate their kids to do well in school and thusly life.
and i agree with drew i thought that law was made to check on schools and prevent things such as this, not punish if things werent going in the right direction.

I think more than anything it's the parents early on that need to motivate their children to want to graduate and be successful. But when the child starts to grow up, it really is up to them. I don't think that punishment is the right way to go.
I think that the school systems are dated and unmotivating. I think that the percent of drop outs reflects how the school is doing. The students home life may play a significant part in some cases though.
It's time for parents to accept responsibility. Take away the iPods and cellphones, and make their kids sit down and do their homework. It's not fun, and no one likes it, but it's easy. There is no excuse not to graduate highschool.
well said chris i completely agree with your point, parent instill in use our values and morals to do well in life and that is taught from the time you are little to the time you are moving out.
my mom is an elementary school teacher and she told me that other teachers say (when nobody else is around) about this law (NCLB) ...there are many pros and cons about it that I have heard...most of all, nowadays parents think that the teacher only is fully responsible for their child's education...or maybe it's due to this law...in any case, my opinion is that there should me more homework and less fun, and i mean here more readind and writing than talking and playing.
