According to a recent CNN/Opinion Research Corporation Poll, it suggests that the country's financial crisis, record low approval ratings for Bush, and a drop in the public's perception of Sarah Palin, McCain's running mate, could all be contributing to Obama's gain.
53% of likely voters questioned in this poll are backing Obama for president, while 45% for McCain.
Do you think that McCain still stands a chance against Obama even through those suggested causes of Obama's gain? Would there be an event that would significantly increase McCain's approval or is he doomed??

im starting to get the impresssion that mc cain is doomed. i think that people are looking for a different plan for the economy that obama is offering.
Honestly, based on public opinion right now Obama is going to win. With the economy in such disarray and such dissatisfaction with Republican economic policies, Obama has a huge advantage. Something huge has to happen for McCain. But there are three weeks left, something could happen.
i definetly believe mccain has a chance but a lot of things have to go his way. he has to pull some people after this election, he has to convince people that he isnt another Bush. He needs to stand out and show people that he will be a good president. He is the underdog, but Americans love the underdog. 3 weeks is a lot of time, especially in politics and Obama has a tendency to shoot himself in the foot. Its going to be very interesting to see what happens and i believe it will be close either way
i believe McCain still has a chance, this large increase for Obama could just be a temporary one. I don't believe that McCain will necessarily need a significant event in order to lead. Obama's gain in the polls could be short lived if there is a whisper campaign or race will play apart, but we'll just have to wait and see.
I think he still has a chance..there are still a few weeks left till the elections and you have to consider all the times mccain was ahead of obama. so anything can happen considering mccain used to be ahead...
McCain has a very, SLIM chance of pulling ahead on the polls. Obama i think is just to far ahead and their cant be that many Independent voters out their to change this election. I think Obama will win by well margin, but if he is leading by like 8% to 9% before the Inauguration and doesnt win. Theirs going to be some Controversy. Race Card? idk.
Obama will most likely win the election. But it's not over yet, McCain could surprise everyone. A lot of young supporters for Obama may not vote and this could hurt Obama in the end.

i agree that mccain does have a chance, but i think obama will win. i think people are ready for a change and want a democrat to lead this country, at least for a little while, or a republican that isn't like bush (and mccain is pretty much a duplicate).
mccain definitely still has a chance. the percentages are still close and we shouldnt jump to conclusions just because obama might have a couple more points on his lead.
theres a chance.. all those independants out there.. and those whom think that obama already has this race in the bag might not go out and votee... hmm we'll see!!!

yes the people are ready for change, but they want the right change, regardless of political party. And Bush and McCain are the same in the way that they are both Republicans, but to say they are duplicates is ridiculous, small things in common maybe... dupilicate absolutely not. McCain finally made that point and people need to stop using that lame excuse.
Even if Obama wins, it's going to be a lot closer than the polls indicate, I wouldn't be surprised if we dodn't know the outcome until a few days later.
hmm well of course McCain still stands a chance i just think that when the country is in a state of crisis people are less likely to vote for the party thats in office at the time. But yeah as far as McCain being a duplicate of Bush, allie you know hes not :) and i agree with robert that it might take a few days till we see who wins.
